( :] ) After that awful storm, it seemed that Nathan had found himself a spot against the wall, and was now messing around with a nice handful of clay in his hands. It wasn't too hard to turn the old-ass mud into some decent clay, but now came the struggle of making a pattern with what little tools he had. Wait, he had hands. And tools. Bah, he had to make the actual dang pot first. "Shiiit," Nathan hissed through his teeth, as they carefully split apart the lump of clay. Just as they expected- teeny little holes. Bless up. Nora spotted Nathan and walked over, staring curiously at the mound in their hands. “Um.. what are.. are you doing?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Oh, hey, Nora," Nathan greeted, a little bit of a smile on their face. They were already pushing the halves back together, kneading it in their hands. "I'm, uh, molding a cup right now. Or a pot. Well, at least, I'm trying to." They held up the ball of clay, tilting their head to the side. "Say, d'you think this could pass as a really bad pot?" They resumed kneading, gesturing with their head at the ground next to them. "C'mon, sit, sit." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Mm…” She eyed the ball before handing out her opinion. “No. It, um.. it looks bad. Not.. um.. very pot.. looking.” Brutally honest. She sat down next to Nathan, pulling her cat out from the sling she kept it in. She fidgeted with it as she watched Nathan work. “Did you.. did you make.. the clay?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Aw, bummer." They squinted a little at the ball of clay before immediately jamming both of their fingers into the center of it. Carefully hollowing out a little area inside the ball of clay, they presented it yet again; "Are we kinda gettin' there, though?" "I, uh, kinda did, and didn't. Took most of this from the mud wall here. Uh, mud has bits of clay in it, so it wasn't...too hard getting clay from it. Though, it would've been easier if I found actual, good, smooth clay instead." "I could'a also made my own clay by like- myself. But that would kinnnda hurt." Nathan's attention drifted down to the little cat plush, familiar from before. "Uh, your little guy- does he have a name?" @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

Nora reached over and poked at the ball. “Mhm. Um…. You.. you can do it.” She said so encouragingly. She tilted her head. “Um, so you…. There’s little clay in.. the dirt but you.. you can pull.. it out? Um.. why would.. why would it hurt?” She looked down at her plush when Nathan did. “Um.. I just.. call her kitty. Um..” She turned the doll towards Nathan. The button eyes were scuffed, but there was still a shine to them. The toy was old, but clearly cared for. “I’ve.. It was practically muscle memory at this point. He'd made tens of hundreds of pots before- though a majority of them he just turned back into clay. The lucky few that remained were baked in the oven (he did Not have a kiln) and given to his friends. Looking at kitty, Nathan hummed approvingly and nodded with a smile, all whilst carefully smoothing out the walls of the pot between his fingers. "Kitty's a nice name," he hummed. "Super cute looking. Love the little button eyes." It was true- he hadn't had many stuffed animals, but he always thought the button-eyed ones were much cuter than the little beady ones. "Yeah, there's clay in dirt- well, clay in anything. Clay's like, a certain size of the...grain of. Dirt and stuff. It's weird to 'splain." Nathan scrunched his nose, hemming and hawing for a moment. "Um, well, like. I can kind of...like, make stuff from myself. Like, take...out...a bit of myself and mold it like how I was molding the pot. It's clay! But I'm not made of clay. But I can. Control myself like clay. Does that make sense?" It seemed like Nathan was also a little at a loss for words on how to explain his freak gimmick. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

Nora tilted her head at the explanation. “You… you can.. make clay from you, but.. you’re not clay… mm, I don’t.. I don’t get it.” Nora hummed happily at Nathan’s comments. “Hee.. I.. I take, um.. I take good.. care of her. She’s, um… old.. as me I think. I’ve.. always had her.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Yeah, don't worry, I don't get it either." They returned to smoothing out the pot again, running their fingers along the inside of the pot, now. It definitely would have been easier if he had some water on hand, but he wasn't...too pressed about it. The clay powers was just an extra little perk to keeping the clay the same. "Really, huh?" he asked. "Y'know, I was gunna ask if you made the cat, but it's a lot cooler that you had the little guy with you ever since you had her." Studying the little stuffed animal in Nora's hands, Nathan set down the pot and picked up some residual clay. "Does Kitty always go with you?" @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Mm. I don’t.. I don’t get my powers.. I don’t.. I don’t know why.. um, why I have them..” She fidgeted with her cat, picking some loose fluff from it. “Mhm. Um.. I’ve made.. all my other toys. But, um.. they’re not.. here. Mm… I- I miss them… And… Kitty um, I like.. having her always.. it… it feels bad, not.. having her..” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Ain't that it, buddy." Nathan listened quietly as Nora spoke, messing with the clay in his hands. After a moment, he spoke; "Why don't you make a new friend for Kitty? I know you still miss your old toys, but maybe making a new one for you and Kitty might be nice to help...make stuff...easier, I guess." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She stared back at them. “Huh? But.. I don’t.. I don’t have any cloth.” It did sound nice.. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Silly," Nathan lightly laughed, lifting up the blanket she had made him earlier. "You can use your string to make some fabric, or like, sew a skin for your little guy." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Mm, but.. toy cloth.. takes time to make. It’s.. it’s like clothes cloth. I have to.. to make it smooth. And… I don’t have.. any needles to.. sow with.” She pouted a little. It seems like she wanted to do it. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ (edited)

Nathan glanced down at the clay in his hands after a moment, and carefully began to shape a pair of clay needles from it. It was kind of. Shitty. To be honest. But hey, it worked. He scrunched his nose up in concentration, trying his damn best to make sure they were as smooth as could be. After a moment, he handed the clay needles over- obviously not great or sturdy, but it would do. Well. Hopefully. "Here," he offered, "I, uh- it's still kinda. Malleable. And bad. But I tried to make it as stiff and...close to baked as I could. It's just...drier." "I'd get it baked, but also. No kiln. Uh, there's someone with fire powers here though." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

Nora held the needle, amazed. She accessed it, but.. it didn’t really work. It might be able to do some basic things, but it was too brittle. “…it.. it won’t work..” Staring at the creation, she did get an idea though. She looked up at Nathan, eyes wide with interest. “Um, could- can I.. can I make.. something with your.. with your clay? Please?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ (edited)

"Aw, bummer." He had a feeling it wasn't the best pair of needles, so he wasn't too upset about it being busted. "Huh? Uh, you wanna make something?" Nathan picked up some of the leftover clay and kneaded it in his hands for a brief moment. "Sure, here y'go- it's not the best clay, but it's the best for like, it having been made from mud." He held out the smooth lump of clay to Nora, about the size of a somewhat larger snowball. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She took the ball, intrigued by the cool feel and texture. She just sort of.. squished it around in her hands a bit. “…um.. do.. do you have to.. make pots?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"You can make a bunch o'stuff," Nathan beamed. "Pots, cups, bowls, boxes, slabs- or even just decorative stuff. I like making liiittle tiny stoats and ferrets sometimes. But people also make statues and stuff outta clay. Busts, too." "Did y'have something in mind? I could help you with it, if y'want." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Um… I-I wanna make a.. a bird. It’s- it’s really pretty, um.. it’s black, but it.. it has shiny.. feathers. And- and it goes ‘aa aa!’” She imitated the bird, sort of crow sounding, but without the usually caw. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Ooo, a bird- like, a crow?" Nathan asked, tapping their chin. "I'm not great with beaks, but I think I do feathers...somewhat well. How big did you want the little guy to be?" "I can let you do most of the legwork, if you want? Or I could help- I dunno if you've, like, sculpted before." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She looked up at him with those bright little eyes. “I’ve, um.. never held clay.. before.” She looks back to her ball. “I want… um.. hand.. big to hold in.. my hands.” She continues to mess with the clay, exploring how it shapes and holds. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Aw, damn. Yeah, his heart was absolutely melting. Sweet frickin' kid. "Don't worry if it's your first time. It's always a first time for someone. Lucky for you, y'got a pretty kick-ass teacher who loves making stuff outta clay." "Um, if you want to hold him in your hands," he slowly started, envisioning the crow in his head, "I'd say, just focus on the body right now, how big the body is- so, like, take off a section of clay for the head, and use the bigger part for the body." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She begins rocking as she shapes out the clay, following Nathan’s advice to make separate pieces. “Mm.. like- like this?” She holds up two lumpy bits of clay, somewhat ball shaped. One small and the other a bit smaller than her palm, decent sized. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Hey, that's good! Alright, so here comes the fun part- y'know how crows got a nice, funky, flat kinda tail?" Nathan held up some spare clay and carefully flattened them between his palms, all while ensuring they wouldn't be too thin. "There's this thing called 'scoring'- you use a thin tool, or somethin', to make thin little, little lines on both surfaces of something. Then you add slip, which is wet clay, to make sure both pieces stick together." His finger transformed into something akin to a modeling tool as he continued, "but we should focus on the head first- if we add the tail now, it makes adding the head a little trickier." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She watched him with great interest. After watching him pinch and form his clay for a bit, she was starting to get it now. She made the two lumps into a teardrop shape, forming somewhat of a neck on the bigger one. “Mm, can.. can you, um.. help me put.. the head and the- um, the body.. together?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Nice work," he praised after she had finished, cupping Nora's hand with the larger shape. "Here, watch this-" Scoring was easy work. Nice and easy work. The slip was a little harder, but it wasn't too hard to make some clay crazy soft and malleable. "Normally, I'd mix clay with water, but uh, thanks to a little hack called 'clay powers', we can just. Skip that reallll quick." "And you always gotta score the other section you're tryin' to attach on," Nathan explained, starting work on that one too. "The slip- wet clay -gets into the lines we make, so when we press them together, they're kinda. Latching on, with the slip and the lines and the blending- oh, we gotta blend the clay together." Letting go of her hand, Nathan carefully patted down his hands. "How about you try putting them on together- the head and the body, and then try blending the little seams together? You can just use your hand, it should be alright." (edited)

She went ridged at the touch, but relaxed after a moment. She watched carefully, very interested. She nodded with each explanation, she liked learning from him. He was clear, and demonstrated, and he went slow enough for her to understand. Very fun! She mushed the clay together, and it looked pretty seamless! She smiled at looked to Nathan. “Hee.. is it- it’s good? Um.. what’s.. next?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Niiice, looks great," Nathan hummed, smiling. "The blending's pretty frickin' good, too. Alright- here comes the fun part. Decorating." He accentuated the last part with a little razzle-dazzle if his somewhat chalky palms. "You can decorate your little guy now; feather patterns, or, or whatever you wanna do. Hm, I'd suggest using tools to make the finer details, but we can't do all that. Uh, sticks should work, like. Fine. Though. Or just hands." "I'll help make some wings and a beak for you," Nathan offered, setting down the tail piece. "But I'm here if you need any other help. You can also use some extra clay to like, make, like, a bow, or. Somethin'. Whatever y'wanna make, really." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

"The hand one or the clay one?" He made the clay one instead. That probably made more sense. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“The- mhm. I.. I can’t take.. your hand.. hee. Silly..” She took the tool, immediately making little dot eyes on the bird. She stared at it, carefully considering its design. It looked a bit like this now. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Oh, what a silly little guy," Nathan quietly encouraged, a little smile breaking across his face. "Aw, they look great! And 'specially since it's your first time." "Did you wanna add the tail and wings?" he asked, holding up the pieces of clay he had been working on. "If you wanna keep your little guy like this, then that's fine by me, too. She thinks over the offer. Definitely adding a tail, but.. for whatever reason it feels more… right to have it more flat. “I wanna tail, but, um… I wanna.. draw the wings.” She looks to him for instruction on how to make it a tail. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Hm, in that case, you could kinda pinch the end of the bird- that part- and kind of pinch and slowly flatten it, so it doesn't like, stick to your hands, or get too thin. You could also make it kinda...wider? Like, like a crow's tail. Feather tails." "You can draw the wings with the tool I gave you. Uh, uh, if it breaks, I'll just make a new one for you, alright?" Nathan was already picking up his own pot and continuing to round out the inside of the pot with his fingers in a somewhat similar pinching motion. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She thought for a bit. Nathan had called it a crow, but… there was a bird she remembered faintly, it was different from crows. Big tail, zippy song. And crows didn’t have shiny color feathers.. She was scrunching up her face as she tried to remember. “Um, I want.. the birdie I’m making.. it has a- a reaaally big tail. Um… it’s.. it’s bigger than.. crow tail. Crows.. crows are big and.. this one was.. small.” She started pinching out the tail, long and wide. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ (edited)

Nathan cocked his head to the side, lost in thought as Nora described the bird. Man. He wasn't good with birds. Emmie liked birds more. Much more. At best, he saw pigeons, and, and seagulls, and sometimes the ocassional- "...Grackle?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow a little. "They're like- they have longer tails. Robin shaped. Uh- tiny shaped. Mmm...shiny...feath..ers?" "I don't know much about birds," they admitted. "Like, I know other things. But not birds." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Gra..ckle.” The description sounds right, but the name…. “Za- zana.. Zanate. Zanate..?” She had a far off look all of the sudden. What was that name? Where did.. “It- it is shiny… zanate.. the tails- they’re, um.. fan.. shaped.” She held up her bird, the tail fanned out. “Um, like.. like this.” Her eyes were furrowed. “I don’t…. remember what.. where did.. Nathan didn't seem the sudden shift in Nora, attention fixed on the tail of the bird. After a moment though, he had nodded encouragingly at the tail- all nice and smooth and fanned out. Siiick. "Nice tail," Nathan encouraged, attention briefly slipping down to the pot. All smooth and rounded out. Now, just for some patterns on the side. That wasn't too hard. Definitely not. "Uh, sometimes we just like, remember stuff we heard a while ago," they absentmindedly said, digging their tool-finger into the surface of the clay. Nice smoooth line. "Maybe you just remembered it all of a sudden?" @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Mm…it.. hm.” She stared at it for a moment before shaking her head. “It feels.. mm. Hazy. I don’t.. I don’t remember.. a lot.” She sounds bothered. She draws out the wings, then adds a few dots for detailing. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Nathan certainly seemed to notice it now, blinking a little in concerned worry before sitting upright to look at Nora. "Hey, uh, you good, Nora?" they slowly asked, attention just barely flicking down to the zanate. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

She frowned a bit. “…m-my memory.. is.. it’s bad. S-Salvatore said so.. I can’t remember.. a lot of things. I don’t like it. But, I.. I remembered.. Zanate, and- and Ssalvatore n-never.. I don’t think he.. taught me that. He- he hates animals…” She found herself gripping the bird a little too tightly, mushing its body a bit. Uh oh. Some semblance of worry darted across Nathan's face, but if it did, he didn't say a word on it. They set down the pot and carefully shifted to face Nora a little better. "Having a bad memory isn't a...bad thing, y'know?" Nathan quietly said. "It's inconvenient, yeah, but it's kinda common. People remember and forget stuff real easily." "You're worried 'cause y'don't know where you remembered Zanate from?" Nathan said after a moment, trying to grasp the situation better, "'Cause that guy didn't teach you it?" He tried to keep the crackle out of his voice at the mention of that guy, but it was extremely. Extremely. Unsuccessful. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“I- I don’t… mm.” She fidgeted it a bit, unsure of how to articulate her feelings. “I.. I wasn’t.. always with… Salvatore.. he- he said I.. I had.. a f-family but.. they didn’t.. want me… But I… I think Zanate.. I think I learned.. it before.. I was w-with him.” Her voice shook as she tried to explain. "I'm...sure you might know that Salvatore wasn't a great. Guy. Or a good guy, even, at that," Nathan slowly said, wincing. "And, and, I'm sure your family really cared about you, a lot. Her breath hitched and her jaw quivered as she tried to respond. “I- I.. If they c-cared then.. w-why didn’t.. why didn’t they ffind me?? Wh- why didn’t th-they save me?!” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Awww fuck. Nathan seemed very visibly uncomfortable, his teeth pressed together in a low hissss. Hestia help him with this. "I- I'm sure they...mmm...tried," Nathan weakly suggested, quietly hoping that Naio was hearing. Or nearby. Or something. His ass was not here.
