Sovran made his way into the barracks at a brisk pace. Was there actually a baby here? An infant? A whole, complete, infant? He had to see with his eyes, and he had to make sure that the baby was okay- When he spotted Jymaiyri, his face fell. He spotted the infant. "They're really insane enough to bring a mother and a baby here?" Sovran muttered as he began to take off his coat. This left him in a sleeveless fishnet mesh top with his compression sleeves going straight from the gloves to his shoulders. He stressfully made his way to the two of them. "Are you two well off? Warm enough? You can have my jacket, so you can wrap yourself and your little one in it," Sovran offered as he came closer. The disaster man looked entirely concerned for them both. @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Even with the new people coming into the barracks, Jymaiyri kept in her little corner, not wanting to draw attention to herself. She hoped Connie would be back soon. Though Minerva had fallen into a deep sleep, Jymaiyri herself could not rest. She tried, and tried to relax, but her nerves kept her on edge. She kept watch, vigilantly. It was the only thing she could do to give herself peace of mind- if there was a threat, she would see it. Which was why when Sorvan entered, she was already ready for him. Jymaiyri hadn't even taken off her hat, much less her coat, so she really didn't need Sorvan's offering. She, in fact, shrunk away from his approach, holding her sleeping baby close to her chest. "Who told you we were here? Who are you?" She whisper-hissed- perhaps a clear enough indication baby was sleeping? @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

Sovran, seemingly understanding, spoke with a lower voice. He remained a good distance away and had his arms positioned to the sides in a show of innocence. He was here with good intentions. "The kid said there was a mother and their child here," Sovran whispered. "I just- Wanted to see if you two were okay, and that this was true. Our host didn't say sh- Anythin' about there being an infant here. I 'pose I just wanted to see if that was true." His free hand rested on his chest in greeting. "My name's Sovran Zelkovas." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Connie told him about them. That didn't exactly relieve Jymaiyri's suspicions of Sorvan, but it was, at least, an explanation. "She's my daughter," Jymaiyri explained, still whispering. "I didn't mean to bring her with me- though, I didn't mean to come here, in the first place. I'm not going to let anyone hurt her. On my life." She didn't offer her own name, and definitely not Minerva's. Giving a name was giving trust, and she didn't trust Sorvan yet. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

“I didn’t mean to come here either. None of us really planned on it,” Sovran sighed. “I swear to you, I mean you or your child no harm. You have my word on this.” @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Jymaiyri sighed. She glanced away from Sorvan, only for a moment. It was the first show of trust she'd shown. "I only wish I could believe everyone else felt the same. The mere fact I'm here, and that she's here, means that someone wants to hurt us." @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

Sovran clenched his jaw shut for a moment before he let out a deep sigh. “The big guy over this doesn’t care who he’s draggin’ into all of this. This is all some big game for ‘em,” He let out a deep sigh. “.. I don’t know what we’ll be facin’, but I can try and ensure the safety of you both.” @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Jymaiyri paused, holding Minerva close to her. "And how can I know I can trust you? How can I know you aren't just lying to me?" @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

Sovran paused for a moment, mulling over his words “Well- Guess that’s a bit of a leap of faith, I su’pose,” The man rubbed the back of his neck, hesitating for a moment. “But if it helps to know, I’ve actually taken care of children before in the past, it had been my role- Or, job, I guess is what we can call it. When you make that oath to kids, it isn’t somethin’ you stop, y’know? I think it’s somethin’ I’ll likely carry for the rest of my life.” @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Sorvan could've been lying about that, too. But his hesitation, and the way he described his duties, didn't make it seem that way. At least, Jymaiyri hoped so. She desperately hoped there was someone here she could trust. She visibly relaxed a bit. "My name is Jymaiyri," She rearranged Minerva in her arms, so Sorvan could see her sleeping face. "Hers is Minerva. She's six months old. I got separated from my husband, when all this happened." @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

“It’s nice to meet you, Jymaiyri,” Sovran smiled. At Minerva’s name and age mention, his smile softened as he looked at the baby. “Wow- Six months? Such a little one.” He frowned. “A little one without any formula.. I see why the other kid was in such a rush to see if anyone had any food..” @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"I know. She's so... little, and fragile..." Jymaiyri put her hand over Minerva's cheek. It was clear what she was thinking about. In this place, there were endless opportunities for Minerva to get hurt. "She's barely started on solids, I'm so worried for her..." Jymaiyri continued. "I.... if worst comes to worst, I guess I can grow something, but..." She sighed. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

"I'm sure there's some source of veggies around here, there's people who have been here before us, surely, they know how to survive this climate." Sovran bit back a sigh. Sovran paused. "I know that it's not much, but I could supply you with some distilled water with my powers. She'll need food, but the water could at least help make her feel a bit 'full.'" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"There has to be something." Jymaiyri repeated in agreement. "My husband... he grew up in a place somewhat like this, I'm sure he'd know at least something, but...." She closed her eyes. "He's not here." "Water would be... appreciated. I know I'd appreciate it, at least." Jymaiyri sighed. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

Sovran took a seat on one of the beds and reached for a bag that was attached at his hip. He unhooked it and set it down on the bed. Metal could be heard clicking and clacking against one another. ".. I wish that I had somethin' more I could give you," Sovran bit back a sigh. "I grew up in a settin' like this too, but it'd take me too long to be able to grow you anything.. Perhaps your husband's somewhere 'round here?" Opening up the bag, various metal balls of different sizes could be seen. With the brush of his thumb over his middle and pointer fingers, two metal balls floated out and began to liquify as it changed form. From two metal balls, a baby bottle began to form. Another two metal balls floated up and formed a larger bottle for Jymaiyri. "It ain't much, but you'll definitely be needing one of these for your little one," Sovran hummed. "Now, as for the water.." The flick of his left wrist. Above the palm of this hand, a small orb of water appeared. He stared at it for a few moments, shifting the exact properties of the water. His water was drinkable, but he wanted to ensure that it was the best quality it could be for an infant. Sovran's focused remained on the water for just a few moments before he made the water float into the bottle. Once both bottles were filled, he presented them both to Jymaiyri. @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"It's alright. Even this is a gift I'm lucky to have." Jymaiyri said. She watched Sorvan carefully as he opened his bag, intrigued by the use of his powers. Metal manipulation, and water? Interesting. She took the bottles, and nodded. "I'll find some way to repay you for this kindness. I promise." She took a sip from her own water- she was thirstier than she'd realized. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

"If you need more of it, feel free to ask. It's not a hassle." Sovran reassured her. He leaned back and made another small orb of water that he plopped into his own mouth. Yum. "Don't worry about repaying me back, I'm just happy to be able to lend a hand where I can." Sovran offered her a grin. @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"This should be enough for now." Jymaiyri hummed. She looked to Minerva- the little baby was slowly blinking awake. Jymaiyri rocked her gently, hoping she might nap a little longer. Still speaking softly, she continued, "I'd feel bad if I didn't. I don't like to be in debt to people." Jymaiyri hummed. "We can form a little allyship." @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

(Since I rolled a 9 c: ) "An allyship sounds good, but don't stress yourself over it or paying me back. Don't think of it as being debt or anythin', really. You got more than enough to worry about-" There was a sudden bright flash of light to Sovran's left. The light became that of a dark blue, and began to take form of- A small child? The form was that of a four year old child with two pigtails and a frilly dress. Even if the 'child' was glowing a dark blue, their expression was clear as day: Excitement, the kind of genuine excitement that toddlers had when they jumped on their feet and clapped their little hands. The 'child' looked to Sovran and pointed at the baby in Jymaiyri's arms, eagerly waving their little hand. It seemed that they would've been repeating the word, "Baby!! Baby! A baby!! A little baby!!! A baby!" if the figure was capable of speech. "Easy, easy now," Sovran scooted towards the edge of the bed and motioned for the child to come closer to him. "I know, that's Minerva, she's real little. Excitin', huh? Just take it on easy now." The glowing figure continued to hop up and down. A baby! A little baby!!! Minerva, at least, was enthused. The flash of light was enough to fully wake her from her slumbers, but instead of being upset, started giggling her little baby laugh, waving her little hands towards the figure of the child. Jymaiyri, though, was not so at ease. She held Minerva close in her arms, and stared at Sorvan, almost looking like she might flee. She mouthed, 'what is going on' to him, praying he would have an answer. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

The child bounced on her feet gleefully and waved to the baby. She seemed to be too focused on the baby to really notice Jymaiyri's reaction. Sovran, however, did notice. "I'm sorry, my powers just-" Sovran motioned with his hands as he tried to think of how to describe his powers. "It's complicated, but she's not going to cause you or anyone harm. She can't hurt you or touch you, actually. She's just a bit excited, I can bring her back here, if you'd like." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Sorvan's powers were getting weirder the more Jymaiyri heard about them. Regardless, she was already trusting Sorvan, so she figured she could trust him about this, too. "Well... Minnie seems to like her." She sighed. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

The child continued to bounce on her feet. She looked at Sovran, pointed at the baby, and then made a heart with her hands. That seemed to bring a chuckle out of the man. "Seems like Maia likes her, too." Sovran chuckled. @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"yu!" Connie, after a good few minutes wrangling with the door with Zero usable hands, was making her way over to the little group in the corner. Jymaiyri and Minnie seemed to be doing well, but now there were two new people who had joined the little party. One of the guys from the campfire, and someone blue- "Jymaiyri!" she cheerfully said, immediately showing her the honest-to-Crumb awful contraption she had made. "There's a kitchen nearby, and they have fish and warm water! Uh, but it's super cold, so I did this! Can babies eat fish? Anyways, they have warm water! And-" Connie looked down to see a child- small, dark blue, and very, very young, bouncing around on her feet. "Another baby?!" Connie gasped, lightning sparking loudly. "Connie!" Jymaiyri smiled as Connie returned, and waved her over. "Minnie got a good nap in, but she's up now. I think she should be able to eat fish, if we mash it up enough. When Connie entered, both Sovran and the child looked over toward her. Maia gave the bigger kid a bigger wave. Hello!! Hi!!!! "Good to see you, kid," Sovran held up a hand in greeting. "Sorry we didn't get to talk much back there. How're you doin'?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺 @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Aw, that's nice!" she cooed, smiling a little at Minnie, already giggling and laughing at the blue Child. At least she didn't look too badly hungry. "Ummm, erm. I'unno what kinda fish it is," she admitted, stilling the lightning so she could give the cup of fish to Jymaiyri . "Um, but it's warm! Nice 'n warm 'n good!" she added, setting down the glass of warm water. "A Frogling- Zahara -she helped me get this stuff! There's a big old bonfire outside and a nice kitchen area, super warm!" She waved a little at the kid, shaking the lightning off her knuckles. "Hi, hi!" she greeted, grinning at the kid before peeking up at the- woah -super tall guy. "Hey, you were at the campfire!" Connie greeted, waving her hand too. "And it's alright- I'm! I'm doing- yeah! I'm doing awlright." There was definitely something heavy lurking behind her words, a bit of an ache, a lot of a longing. Minerva giggled even more as sparks of lightning danced off Connie's hands, and waved her own hands around in- solidarity? Joy? Something. Jymaiyri looked at the fish. "Hm. I don't really wanna be giving Minnie anything I'm too uncertain of. But thanks, anyways. I can still eat it, and that'll be good for Minnie in the long run. She'll probably have to go back to breastfeeding while we're here. Not that I hear her complaining that much about it. She'll get her nutrients." A bit awkwardly, Jymaiyri changed the subject. The figure of the girl bounced on her feet at the display of lightning. Maia did happy toddler claps with her hands. She seemed to already like Connie very much. It was clear to Sovran that Connie definitely not alright. Poor kid was probably losing her mind trying to stay strong. This situation definitely had to be terrifying for someone so young. “It’ll be alright, kid,” Sovran gave her a nod. “We’ll figure things out, alright? Good on you for gettin’ some fish. The baby’s gonna really appreciate that.” As for ‘frogling,’ Sovran had no idea who or what that was. Maybe it was what Rakin was. Connie smiled a little at how much the kids seemed to like her lightning, shoving it into the back of her mind for later use. Shiny stuff works on kids. Connie made some noise of agreement at the guy of a mountain's assurance- mostly about the fish part, though. "Yeah, the fish! Mhm! A-and it's no worries!" she quickly reassured. "I'll do some work askin' around what kinda fish it is! What kinds of fish can babies eat?" She could do a little bit of fishing for those specific kinds...did they have bait here? Probably. "Uh, yeah, a Frogling!" She raised her hand to about how high Zahara was, continuing, "yay-high, super friendly! She helped me get some of the fish and stuff, and- and, I'unno, she was just super sweet and nice about it! Um, but." Her smile fell, falling into something akin to confusion and worry. "But, I don't think she knows why we're here either. Or- or any of the guys who're here, too." She wrung her hands a little, the lightning sparking more with stress. As Minerva giggled, Jymaiyri bounced her a bit on her knee. "I'm not entirely sure what kinds of fish you could find here... but a whitefish like cod or pollock should do." She turned to your baby and cooed, "Do you like fish? I guess we'll just have to find out!" "Hmm... well, I'm glad the people here seem nice enough." Jymaiyri glanced to Sorvan. "Do y'think we can trust them? I'm... doubtful, myself, but I've always been told I'm untrusting." She sighed. "Huh. If they don't know about the tournament, and we don't know much about the tournament... that's gonna be interesting. Hm." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

Shiny stuff did, in fact, work on kids. Maia was entirely enthused. She hopped onto a bed and clapped her hands again, still happy over the whole thing. Her little legs swung. “Dante was someone I met who had been here before us. According to him, he was told that ‘everything would be alright’ once ‘something’ happened. I think us gettin’ here’s that ‘something.’ He didn’t seem to know much about anythin’ either. Dunno if I trust him, but he doesn’t seem like a bad guy. Just-.. Needy, I guess.” At the sight of the mother interacting with her child, Sovran couldn’t help but smile softly. He looked at Connie. “Did either of you meet that lil’ guy? "Oh- uh, Dante's a good cook," she helpfully added, recounting Zahara's words. Wrote in cursive that she couldn't read, too. "I haven't met him yet, though. But Zahara kinda said the same stuff...how Rakin- the, the- Frogling King, was going to like...I guess, make stuff better?" "But, um, something bad happened, and Rakin helped fix it. I shouldn't really be! Talking about it, it seemed a little private. So. I will. Stop. Mhm! But- but," she laughed a little, somewhat forced- "he is kinda small, just like me, I think!" "I will- I will keep an eye out for that! Whitefish. Whiiitefish." Connie nodded eagerly, hair tufts bouncing with each movement. "Oh, and! Zahara mentioned having tea, too? Um, that's prolly more for the big guys, not the. Kids. Speaking of!" She leaned down a little, smiling at the blue kiddo. "Who're you! Hi! "Hmmm..." Jymaiyri hummed doubtfully. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see..." "Really? When I woke up I saw this... weird floating guy. Only about... four or so feet tall, with a bunch of eyes. And they talked weird." Jymaiyri grimaced at the recollection of that. "Rakin's the guy with the shaved head, yeah? He was passed out in the corner of the room. Sovran's eyes widened slightly with surprise. "That lil' guy's a King? That's a surprise. He suddenly gave off a quiet chuckle. "Yeah, you both are pretty little. How old are you, kid?" The little girl lit up with joy when Connie came closer. She clapped her hands and opened her mouth, but when she spoke, no words could be heard. Maia seemed to giggle after she was done 'speaking.' "Right, haven't introduced myself yet," Sovran chuckled. "The name's Sovran Zelkovas. Pleasure to meet you, kid. And that lil' kid there's Maia. She's happy to meet you." At the mention of Minnie being put into a bucket of water, Sovran's gaze sharpened. He clenched his jaw, fighting back a wave of anger in front of the kids. "He did what? "Yeah! And he did...some. Pretty bad stuff, now that I think about it." Story for another time, maybe? "I'm fifteen!" Connie cheerfully said, starting to take off her gloves and hoodie. It was getting toasty in here. "I turned fifteen just last month! Auntie teases me and says I'm still fourteen, since my lunar birthday didn't happen yet. But I'm fifteen! M'Connie- wa- it's nice to meet ya, Sovran!" she recorrected, nodding vigorously. "And hiya, Maia!" she greeted, turning her attention back as she stuck out her hand for Maia to shake. "I'm Connie, nice to meeWHAT." Connie's head snapped up to stare at Jymaiyri, stunned, "W-what- wh- what?!" she squawked out, quickly lowering her voice as not to startle Minnie or Maia. "He did." Jymaiyri said coldly. "He put her in a bucket. I get that he's- some sort of frog guy? But still." She held Minerva close to her, protectively- though the baby was still having a fun time giggling with Maia. "She's alright now..." "Yeah, there was another guy. Sovran wanted to ask just what kind of stuff he might've done, but he was distracted by several things. The infant being put in a bucket of water, and then this other infant in front of him being barely fifteen years old.Jesus fucking CHRIST. "Good to meet you, kid," He couldn't help himself. He reached out and ruffled her hair in the exact way an uncle would to their niece. "Good to meet ya.." Looks like this was another person he wanted to look out for. Jesus Christ, this place was filled with the young and vulnerable. Maia silently giggled once more and raised out one of her baby hands towards Connie's. Connie would feel a warm sensation in her hand the moment Maia's hand went through Connie's. The child didn't seem bothered by this, and only seemed to silently giggle again. "Nah, I only met one guy, Rakin." Sovran almost added in that he had stabbed Rakin, but he decided to leave that out. "Rakin was still conscious by the time he spoke with me. Someone must've knocked his as- Must've knocked him out just before he got to you. Gods, I'm just glad the two of you are okay."@innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺 @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Aw! M'glad she's alright though, both of you guys, really," Connie hummed, still...uneasy about it all. She really, really did not want to meet this guy, out of disquieted concern and overall unease. "Uh, I. Only met Rakin, he seemed? A little roughed up. But not too badly roughed up?" She shrugged halfheartedly. "He was a little friendly though. Seemed kinda sorry about it all?" Connie sputtered a little when Sovran went to ruffle her hair, giggling something with indignant delight. "My hair!" she complained, not bothering to pat it back into place. Brushing her bangs out of her face, however, she clearly watched as the hand passed directly through hers, a warm sensation fizzling away instantly as soon as she was gone. Jymaiyri laughed as Sorvan ruffled Connie's hair. "I'm glad we're okay. I'm glad we're all okay, as okay as we can be. I hope we can get some answers, sometime soon..." "Huh." She muttered as Maia's hand passed through Connie's form. She held Minerva close to her. Though the baby had little frame of reference for why, she did pause her laughter as Connie stilled. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

".. He was pretty messed up when I met him. Dunno how that happened." Sovran rubbed the back of his neck. He couldn't help but chuckle when the kid laughed. Good, that brought up the mood a bit- Until Connie appeared shook that her hand went through Maia's. ".. You good, kid?" Sovran asked. "Maia's not gonna hurt you, I'm sorry if that took you by surprise. "That's so cool," she whispered, awed. "I've never- I've never actually been this close to a ghost before! Just yaoguai and stuff! That's so cool-" She turned to Sovran, eyes alight with yellow- "She's warm! You're warm!" she exclaimed, quickly looking back to Maia. "I've only seen ghosts at a distance- are you a ghost? Is she a ghost?" Back so Sovran again. "That's so cool, you're so frickin' cool!" And back again. She was a hyperactive little bundle at this point, all feelings of stress and fear having melted away by that briefest little touch of warmth. "I'unno if you're a ghost or not, but that was so cool! Jymaiyri chuckled a bit as the interaction went on, and kept mostly to herself. Minerva started laughing again once Connie seemed to peek up again. Very happy little baby. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

Maia silently giggled as she passed her hand through Connie’s again a few times. The sensation stayed warm and soft, welcoming. The child reflected Connie’s excitement with a wide smile and bouncing of her own. Sovran let out a sigh of relief that he had been holding. Good. Maia was absolutely having the time of her life with Connie. “This is a ‘Remnant,’ a manifestation of my bond,” His gaze softened as he looked over the child. “This here’s a remnant of my niece when she was four. Connie kind of wanted to ask about how Maia was doing now, but she didn't want to pry. Instead, she kept messing around with Maia, casting lightning dancing along her knuckles to keep the kid's attention. "That's actually pretty cool!" she said. "I've never actually seen memory kinda powers before. Usually fire, water, ice, and then like, a bunnncha other stuff. But fire's usually one of the biggest ones!" Even through Connie's laughter, the weight that she was still considered, well. A kid, seemed to sit a little longer with her. She was pretty young, everyone else here considered. She just hoped Minnie would be okay at the end of these...few days. "Don't worry," she laughed, waving her hand slightly. "I'll keep Minnie 'n me outta trouble, no sweat! Oh, and Maia too- innit that right, huh guys?" At that, a particularly brilliant spark of blue lightning danced into the air, disappearing into static and sparks. Tentative, hesitant, and a little doubtful. Itwas something she wanted to believe, truly! But worry ate away at her. Whether she made it known she overheard or not, she didn't budge. After a moment or two of silence, Connie finally looked up at the adults, some little smile settled on her lips. "You make porches?" she asked, wincing a little at the crack in her voice. What did he like? "Dunno, don't think I really got much for hobbies," Sovran rubbed his chin, his stubble tickling his fingers. "I used to do a lot of readin' when I was younger. Poetry, mostly. Guess that was a hobby of mine back in the day." He grinned at them both. "Maybe I'll give them both a try. Gardenin' and fishin' sound good. I used to do ice fishin' back in the day, too. He's got healing powers, and works as an occupational therapist for kids." She explained. "He's my world. My everything. My honeybee. "Um- um- uh-" Connie wrung her hands, digging through her brain to find something else to discuss. "Uh- hey, heyyy, what kind of! Food! Stuff? Do you like eating? It wasn't a good enough distraction for Jymaiyri. She was adjusting the way Minerva lay in the sling, and tugging on her own coat, pulling it snugger around herself. She was restless- perhaps needing something to do with her hands to quiet her mind, or maybe- was she preparing to leave? "I- I like custard buns- but peanut butter is great, I love peanut butter! Anything with peanut butter in it," Connie rambled, landing on a rather poor topic to try to distract Jymaiyri. "Um, peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter cups, peanut butter shakes, peanut- peanut butter sauce, it's not like peanut sauce since you don't actually blend the peanuts, my dama uses peanut butter for the spring roll wraps instead of peanuts, so! Sovran gave Connie another hair ruffle. The kid did her best, and he was proud of her for attempting to change the subject. “You know, why don’t we all take a walk?” Sovran suggested. “This island must be a big place, and there’s gotta be a bunch of things for us to check out. Connie's face fell a little, but she also stood to make some way for Jymaiyri. "O-okay," she quietly said, picking a little at her sleeves. "Um- yeah, that's! That's fair, yeah!" She clearly wanted to say something, but was holding back a little, a little half-frown on her face. Standing where Jymaiyri once was, Connie kept wringing her hands, brows knitted as she stared at the now shut door a moment longer. "I think I might have messed up," she quietly mumbled. "I didn't- I didn't think that- oh." @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

"You didn't mess up," Sovran was quick to reassure her. "She has plenty of things on her mind, her family is at the very top of it. It's not your fault, kid." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Connie only shrugged half-heartedly, forcing her hands to still at her sides. If she had her tamogatchi, she could fiddle around with it endlessly without having to think about anything. But she didn't, so she had to think. "I'm worried," she admitted. "A-about everything- it's cold outside, it's dark outside, we don't know where we are, and- and- and-" She balled up her fists as tight as she could, nails prickling into her palms. "I'm scared," she breathed out, her voice all wobbly. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

With a smooth motion, Sovran took off his jacket and put it around Connie's shoulders. He knelt down a bit to make better eye contact with her. "There," He offered her a small smile. "One less thing for you to be worried about, huh?" He raised a hand and ruffled her hair. "The future's uncertain, Con, I ain't gonna lie about that, but what I'll be honest about is the fact that you got me lookin' out for you. I'll do my absolute damndest to keep you safe." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

She was a little surprised when Sovran set his jacket on her shoulders, and shifted to carefully tug the oversized thing closer around her. However, she wasn't as surprised when he ruffled her hair, a ghost of a smile appearing on her face. His smile was reassuring and welcoming, a beacon of warmth during these times. "I'll do my absolute damndest to keep you safe." Home was all the best things, a cup of apple juice in her hands, the crash of the ocean meeting the shore in her ears- Otter's groaning, Rei's awful jokes, Marshall's hysterical laughter. She couldn't have been farther from home, but this reassurance that he would try- even if it did or did not hold true in the end -was the best feeling she could have felt in the world. She wasn't aware of the tears dripping down her cheeks before a shudder wracked her body and she let out a messy, wobbly hiccup. Again? Connie flung her small arms around Sovran's neck, hugging him close as she pressed her face into his shirt. Sovran wasn't all too surprised when Connie threw herself into his arms. Part of him expected the poor kid to do that. He was more than ready to accept her into warm and welcoming arms, giving her a tight and reassuring hug. A single arm wrapped around her while his free hand found the back of her head, where he gently cradled her close. "Go on, just let it all out," He gently soothed. "It'll be alright, Con, promise you. You'll make it out of here." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Her head was hurting again. So was her throat. And her eyes. Connie was falling apart at the seams, tears falling perpetually- whenever she tried to breathe, it was all rattly and awful, and she would shudder again, a quiet little sob escaping her. She clutched onto Sovran's shirt like a lifeline- like he was a big bear, went a thought, dashing away as soon as it had came. She liked bears. Whether she was aware of the warm hand to the back of her head, she didn't mention it. She just knew that the hug was warm and comforting, and that's all she wanted to focus on. "I wanna go home," she quietly mumbled, as the tears began to fill her eyes again. "I don't wanna be here anymore." She was only fifteen- she didn't know what the contestants would be doing, but she couldn't really hold her ground up against a bunch of adults. The sentiment that she'd make it out was a nice one, though. Although she didn't entirely believe it, she really, really wanted to. @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

"I know, kid, I know," Sovran spoke in a quiet, still soothing voice. His hug became just a bit tighter. Maybe his hug truly was like that of a bear's. "I'll figure out a way to get you on home. This'll be like one whole nightmare you'll be able to wake up from and put behind you, I swear it, kid." It took Connie a few minutes to steady her breathing again, though it was still somewhat rattly. This hug was doing wonders for her. Not entirely, but it was surely helping her calm down, if only a little bit more. Everyone had been so kind in the little amount of time she had been here- if not for the circumstances of being sacrificed- or dying- or- or whatever - she would have really enjoyed being here. "This nightmare sucks crumbs," Connie grumbled a little, lifting a hand to push the tears out of her eyes. "Absolute crumbs. E-especially this tournament thing." "You- you should figure a way to get yourself home, too," she insisted, not yet pulling away from the hug. "You got Maia- and- and everyone else at home, too." @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

"It does 'suck crumbs,'" Sovran fought back at a chuckle. "This whole situation's full of cr- Carp. You deserve much better than this, kid." He found himself gently stroking her hair. "I'll worry 'bout me later, it's alright. Let's focus on you, okay?" Sovran smiled. "Besides, Maia's got her Ma and an uncle lookin' out for her. Connie couldn't help it- she laughed at that stupid carp thing, with the idea of Sovran like a big friendly bear still fresh in her mind. Carp! Like the fish! Bears eat carp! She was still laughing at the (truthfully, not at all funny) joke-pun-replacement when her sides began to ache. She wiped away a few tears from her eyes, still chuckling quietly. "Carp," she repeated, sniffling a little. "Yeah, it- this is full of carp. Hehe. Carp." She relaxed a little more into Sovran's hug, her cheek mashed against his shoulder. At least the rattly-wheeziness of it all had seemed to subside. "Okay," she quietly said, not fully convinced. "But- but we're gonna figure how to get you outta here, too. Okay?" The kindness of stranger she had only known for what could have been fifteen minutes. “Y’know, maybe we can catch some carp later,” Sovran chuckled. “Or some other kind of fish. I dunno what fish are in the water, but we can sure as heck catch’em.” Sovran continued to hold Connie in his arms. When she wanted the hug to end, that’s when he’d let go, when she felt comfortable and ready. His hand continued to gently stroke her hair. “Alright, kid, we’ll add that to the list of things to do,” Sovran hummed. Fortunately for her, Sovran didn't let go of the hug. That was good. She really needed this. "Carp would be good," she said, laughing a little. "I love fish, any kind of fish. It's so frickin' good." Uncle, came and went a thought, however distant it may be. It was funny, that feeling of warmth in her chest despite all this. shūshu. "D'you wanna- um- look around for some stuff to make a rod later?" she suggested. "Um- when it's, y'know, not as dark. As it is. Now. “Any kind of fish is pretty good- I know how to prep a ton of different kinds, so maybe I’ll spoil you to a Sovran fried-fish special.” The man chuckled. “Well definitely do that when it’s brighter out, kid,” Sovran nodded his head in agreement. “Bit too dark for us to look ‘round right now, but as soon as it’s bright out, we can get you a nice fishin’ rod.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Pulling away a little from the hug, but not entirely, Connie cocked her head to the side, an eyebrow raised over her somewhat puffy eyes. "What's a Sovran fried-fish special?" she asked, giggling a little. "Is it- is it all fried?" "Mhm! Later," she agreed, nodding her head energetically, too. "You're just gonna have to wait and find out, Con," Sovran grinned. He couldn't resist giving her a boop on the nose. "It's a surprise." "Yeah, we can both make ourselves fishin' rods and catch somethin' good to eat. It'll be a good time." Nice, relaxing, and ultimately delicious. A good way to unwind. Connie laughed again, a bit louder this time, her eyes instinctively scrunching shut with delight. "A hint, c'mon!" she insisted, lifting a hand to playfully swat at his hand. "Ooo, yes! We can do a little competition!" she eagerly said, before faltering. "Aw, crumbs- carp- you're not really good at it. Um! I can teach you how to fish good-ish first, and then we can have a little competition! See how much fish we can get!" @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

“Noooope, no hints.” Sovran moved his hand back with a quiet laugh. He lowered his hand. “Can’t spoil any surprises now.” “Y’know, that sounds good. "Hmmm, fiiine. But I'll definitely guess it before you make it!" she promised, a playful glint in her eye. That glint quicklt transformed into mock surprise as she gasped, shaking his shoulders with her little fists to no avail. "Heyyy, hey, you said you were bad at fishing! "Is it like, is everything made of ice? Did the snow get packed and stuff? Ooo, do you guys live super north? Do-" Connie tried to stifle a yawn by scrunching her eyes shut, but to no avail. “I don’t think so, kid,” Sovran chuckled. He reached out and ruffled her hair for perhaps the hundredth time that night. “Why don’t you go and get some shut-eye? Connie shook her head a little, her messy hair getting even messier. "I- argh! Fine, I'll take a quick nap or something." Hopefully by the time she woke up, it'd be daytime and they could scrounge around for some sticks to make the rod. "But you gotta tell me after you wake up!" Finally, she pulled away from the little hug, peering down at Sovran's oversized jacket. "You can take it back, if you want," she offered, fiddling with the edge of it. "Bah, it's alright!" she reassured, stretching her arms out to display the sick-ass jacket the tournament gods had given her. "My coat should be fine! You could take it back, if y'want!" Removing the jacket from her shoulders, she ever carefully put the bundle into Sovran's outstretched hands. Fatigue really was taking a toll on her at this point, and she strained to hold back a yawn, to no avail. "I'll take a quiiick snooze there," she said, pointing to the bed where Jymaiyri once was. She hoped she was doing well in the cold. "Quick little thing. But I'll! Get up and find you, somehow. Or ask around for a big guy, tree, which shouldn't really be too hard, y'know?" She gestured a little at how tall he was, even when kneeling down. "Since you're so tall. And all. Like a tree. Ehe. Tree bear. Grizzles climb trees, right?" @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

As Sovran was putting his coat on, Connie was taking hers off to use as a cozy little blanket. "You'll be pretty easy to find," she agreed, settling down a little on the bed. She didn't want to mess up the wool blanket, so it would probably be safer to just leave it alone. "Big ole' grizzly bear kinda guy." "Um, thanks," she quietly said after a moment, swinging her legs a little. "For, uh, y'know! The coat 'n the hug, 'n. Stuff." @Vanessa| Sovran+Zora+Cansu

She flashed a little thumbs up, swinging her legs onto the bed as she felt her eyelids begin to grow heavy. Despite how much she wanted to resist the sleepy-weariness of it all, she was not God's strongest soldier and had been given the sleepiest battle to fight. Crumbs. "Cause bears are fuzzy and soft and comfortable and nice," she hummed, ticking them off of her fingers. "Like you, minus the fuzzy. Maybe you're kinda scruffy-scraggly though, since hair. Scruffff." The bed felt like the best frickin' thing in her life, and she sank into the woolen fuzz. "And if you need a hug too, I'll be here," she yawned. "Like a frickin' red panda, which is not a bear, but it is in my heart." It still felt a little overwhelming, but it certainly didn't feel as bad as it was when she first got here. There were people here- friends, even- and despite the perpetual existential dread, it was still pretty nice here. Maybe the looming fear of it all would be gone by the time she woke, just... "Guess the hair kinda fits, huh? Same brown, same scruff," The man hummed in agreement. He knew that the kid was already drifting off. "You definitely feel like a red panda. Red panda and a bear, one heck of a duo." "Yeah, like a nightmare.." Sovran fell into silence. He made sure that Connie was comfortable, and even adjusted her coat on her so she'd be covered cozily.
