Nathan was just starting to patch up the wall he failed at fixing earlier before he noticed a very. Flickering. Flame in the corner of the room. They paused, looking around the room as if someone may have left behind their pet living flame. After a moment of no one returning to reclaim the fireball, Nathan carefully flicked his wrist, along with a snowball-sized ball of mud at the flame. Bullseye. Well, maybe it wasn't someone's pet fireball, but it just may have been someone. The gunk hit true, seeming to smother out the flame entirely... But moments later, the clay hardened and cracked, and the fire shot out from beneath it. The flame grew and grew and grew, cranking up the temperature of the room. It grew and swirled in to the shape of a woman- with fair skin and flowing red hair. Currently, flames danced at the ends of her hair, matching the intensity of her eyes as she scowled down at Nathan. "What do you think you're doing, boy?" She nearly growled, suddenly wincing as the flames died down from her hair. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Nathan seemed pretty happy with himself that he managed to hit the fire first try, but his joy disappeared near instantly as the clay went through all stages of baking at once, and the fire was roaring again. With a yelp, Nathan had lunged back, fists balled up as if he would fight the damn fire. Yet as the woman formed, his fear had mellowed back down into just caution. That was, like, six, on the list of crazy shit happening today. Maybe five. "I was putting out th'fire in the corner of the building with people in it," Nathan sniffled, tapping at his arm a little. Aldreda kept stomping over toward the man, crossing her arms over her chest. "Don't say you're welcome- Great Jacana Above- you could've killed me! How would you feel then? If you killed little ol me?" @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Knowing Rakin, I don't think you could have died, even if you wanted," Nathan flatly said, keeping still as she approached. "But if I had- one, I'd feel a liiittle bad. Two, uh, there was a fire in the corner of this building. Have you seen the weather outside? The sky be cracklin' and shit! How'd you feel if the entire building burnt down?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"I never actually met the weird guy in charge here, for your information, and ALSO, if this place was on fire I'd feel great! Better even!" @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Yeah, figured, Hades alive. And I meant, knowing Rakin's little scheme, I don't think anyone here can die. He'll just hop on in and 'intervene' in his own way, somehow. So if you managed to die here, I'd actually be pretty impressed." Nathan was mirroring the fire guy at this point, his own arms folded across his chess. While they weren't as...irritating as the eye guy, he was not feeling any particular fondness for them, either. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"I actually die frequently, but I just come back to life. Sooooooo... I could totally die if I wanted to. I could die right now just to prove a point!" @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"So it didn't even matter if I killed you or not?" Nathan sighed, exasperated. He quirked his eyebrow upward, some smirk curling at the corner of his mouth. Really, now. Dying frequently wasn't usually a phrase said. "Prove it." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Other people aren't allowed to kill me, that's quite beneath me!" Aldreda rolled her eyes. "But fine, I shall prove it! Watch closely, boy!" She took in a deep breath before puffing out her cheeks and holding her nose. The lack of oxygen quickly sent her body disintegrating in to ash, like a stopper had been put over fire. The ashes limply sat on the ground now. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

In the blink of an eye, the lady that was just there was not just- just gone, just ashes. Nathan blinked again, just staring at the pile, as if expecting something to happen. Maybe for the ashes to spontaneously combust? Something, really. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

For a time, the ashes stayed on the floor. Then, they finally began to swirl and rise back, reforming in to Aldreda's normal self. "There. Told ya." She grinned, a few pieces of flame dancing on her shoulders. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Huh," Nathan hummed, nodding his head a little bit. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't impressed; that was hella impressive. "So, are the fire and ashes things a related thing?" he asked, gesturing a little with the knuckle of his hand. "Well, the fire, the ashes, the rebirth, that stuff? Or did you just manage to get lucky with the power matchup?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Well, everything fit in to place once I got burned at the stake! Rose up from the dead with brand new Phoenix powers- it was pretty amazing. Too bad you weren't there to see me and my coven's glory!" She laughed, already back in to a better mood. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Right, that probably explained it; the fire, the ashes, the rebirth stuff- everything phoenix-y in nature and mythos. Nathan hummed, nodding a little at the explanation of her powers and at the burning of the stake thing. (Huh?) "You were burned at the stake?" Nathan repeated in a hiss of a whisper, eyes wide. Despite how cheery she seemed to be, it still was all just eerie. "I can- I can kinda get the entire like, oh, sudden powers thing, but the burning at the stake?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Yep! Me and all the girls I knew at the time- it was a whoooooole thing!" She chuckled. "My brother threw the torch too, he was a real piece of work." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"You seem way too cheerful for all this," Nathan quietly said, his hand tangled in his hair. "So, wait- did they...also...come back...like you did?" A vague-ish gesture of the hand. "And is that even allowed- like- mass murder? Is he dead? Still kickin'? Just, trying to lay down the groundwork for...this." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Well, this all happened a while ago, you see. I'm in much higher spirits about it than I used to be. Plus everyone else came back as well, just as hot as me!" Aldreda nodded. "And he might be dead now, I got teleported here as he was having a heart attack and no one was around. But if he's not dead he's still king of Avis." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

“Avis,” Nathan repeated, mulling the word over. “I’ve never heard of Avis before. I’d assume it’s a kingdom, or somethin’ along that?” Despite all of this chaos, it was still pretty interesting getting to learn of the places the other contestants hailed from. Not to mention, it made it a little easier to rule out the whole, ‘contestants from different places’ thing. He guessed there was still an underlying factor for all of this selection, then. “Huh. Well, that’s a relief- the whole resurrection thing, I don’t know how keen you are about the whole, brother-king-dying thing. By hot…did everyone resurrected get like, the same phoenix powers as you? How- how did you manage to get powers, anyways?” Coven, right. “…Are you a witch?”

"Yep! You're a very observant boy, youuu." Clearly she didn't know his name as she stared down at him... Trying to recall if she had heard it. "Avis is the kingdom of birds, if you knew anything about taxonomy you wold have been able to put that together! And yes, everyone has the same powers as me. No one knows why, but we think it was the Great Jacana giving us a blessing, in a non-traditional way. And yep, we're all witches! That's why we got burned." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

“I gotta get out and travel more,” Nathan sighed, scratching behind their ear. “All these powers and higher powers and deities and kingdoms, man.” The kingdom of birds, the Great Jacana, witches; genuinely really intriguing stuff- he didn’t consider himself to be a very big history kind of guy, but man, was this shit interesting. Sure, Ninjago was interesting (to an extent), but the wave after wave of bad guys in the city just got- repetitive. “If, if everyone had these powers, then did…everyone burn?” they carefully tested, fingers pressed together. “Or was it just, like, you? "It was just me and the gals of course! Most of the rest of Avis just watched on.. Hah! Man, they sure had looks on their faces! I think that broke a lot of people from the Avis mindset. Seeing a bunch of teenagers get burned alive at the hand of one of their kid brothers was pretty hard to watch." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Teenagers burnt at the stake! How fun! Again, really, really intriguing stuff. And also increasingly worrying and eerie. Nathan seemed visibly concerned to say the least, eyebrows knitted together as he continuously looked between the phoenix and the wall. Damn, that wall was made out of wall. Certainly, a wall of all time. "I'm sure they did," Nathan slowly agreed, nodding as if to accentuate the fact he was paying attention. Which he was, very clearly so. "Theee look on theirrr faces, mhm. Uh, I'm gonna go patch up this wall right here, bad storm comin', wouldn't want the wall to collapse or anything, mhm-yup-yeah." Without waiting for a response, Nathan quickly shuffled over to the wall right behind the phoenix and focused his hands (and his eyes yup don't look nervous or scared) on the wall. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

Meanwhile, Aldreda looked entirely content, maybe even a bit happy. She had a real carefree grin, and spun to face Nathan. "Slathering that clay around won't help one bit, let me handle it, boy!" She grinned as fire lit up in her hands. She shot two different balls of fire out, both hitting on either side of Nathan. The flames were hot enough to solidify the clay, and nearly burn Nathan as well. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Nathan was just about to try using his powers on the wall before the two fireballs jolted him out of his focus. With a strangled sort of gwaaugh, Nathan leapt back, shaking his hands a little from the heat. "Who said I was gunna slather it 'round," Nathan wheezed, still shaking his hands. The briefest little smirk was playing at the corner of his mouth, and he returned his attention to the (somewhat) toasty wall. He tried not to focus on the sections of solid brick-clay. "Watch-" It took only a moment or so, but just like earlier, the clay from between the wooden planks and whatever the hell else surged along the support beams and solidified into a pretty dang sturdy wall. Nathan exhaled through his teeth, some semblance of a crackle emanating from the back of his throat. "You got your firey gimmick, I got my clay-stuffs," he laughed a little, his mood somewhat uplifted after using his powers. Petrichor, yum. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Hmm.. You employed an advanced slathering technique I didn't expect." Aldreda glared at the wall, trying to pick out any malformations or problems with it.. But it was fine. "And hey! Fire isn't my gimmick it's me! I'm sure you're not made of clay or something equally stupid." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"I mean," Nathan slowly started, wincing somewhat. "I mean. I can kinda. Well. Uh. I'm not made of clay, that'd be really gross and I'd much rather die than live with that sensation forever." Holding his arm away from the phoenix-not-fire-gimmick guy, it began to shift as easily as molding clay, transforming into his favorite little (not little) axe-blade. Nathan did a careful, experimental swing, the rather sharp axe-arm swinging into the ground with a loud thunk. "I can kinda transform parts of my body like how I'd control clay, so it's not clay. Uh, but sometimes I can also. Make...things? From myself? And it's like clay? It's, uh- it's kinda gross, actually. And freaky." A little sniffle. "But, no, I'm not made of clay. You're made of fire? "Huh.. Transformation." Aldreda watched him closely, moving up a ringed finger to tap her chin. "Hey, seems like you're wrecking up the building even worse than me! Watch it!" "And you say you make things? You should make me something to prove it! And also to apologize for nearly smothering me, since I am, in fact, 100% fire who just so happens to look like a hot witch woman." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Said the fireball who was in the corner burning the place down," Nathan grumbled, yet untransformed his arm nonetheless. "I'm not making you anything," they snickered a little, an eyebrow raised in mild amusement. "You can choose to believe it or not, but I'm not making things for people. Not to mention, again, you were sat in the corner, kind of burning and doing your thing. How'm I supposed to know you were a human?" He tapped his arm a little, humming and cocking his head to the side. "Then again, those are your powers. Or you. Snf. I'm sorry for almost killing you, I guess. "I was not going to be able to burn this clay shack down! I was trying to save space in here, since it's just so crowded. You'd think you'd know how clay works." Aldreda rolled her eyes. "I'll ignore that last bit you said and accept that apology. You're welcome." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

“Look at how run down this place is! There’s still wood and gunk around, and all I did was make the clay stick to the wood better- wood can still burn, y’know?” Nathan squinted a little, the tapping on his arm increasing. “It’s not like I can just make clay, I’m just restructuring it.” They did a brief one-over of the shack, a little surprised to see so many people- familiar and unfamiliar faces alike. Damn. Those were a lot of competitors. He could take a hunch that this was everyone on their side. Not a bad bunch, if he said so himself. That meant the other side would probably have the same amount, too. “It is pretty crowded,” they agreed, searching briefly for Celena and the others. He could…kind of see them. “Hey, uh, I’m gonna go. I still need to patch up a wall and meet up with a few of my buddies.” @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽 (nats gonna head out! partly bc im in classes and cant respond a bunch before noon_
