Breathe. Just breathe. It’s a familiar memory of a voice that cuts through the fog, and that almost makes it hurt more. Kenji stumbles into the closest building to the bonfire, which luckily is another barrack. Almost tripping over his own feet he grabs onto one of the beds, air rattling in his chest as he fights to calm himself down and lowers himself to sit on the floor leaning against it. He squeezes his eyes shut, pulling his knees to his chest. Why all this pathetic drama? Another, more chilling voice chides, faux-friendly, and Kenji’s shoulders tense. You did not even know the girl. Even now, you still surprise me with your weakness. “Leave me alone,” Kenji grits out, and Amara chuckles. I know you. You don’t want that. He’s not able to offer up any defense to that, simply falling silent as he stares at the floor blankly. @capisnotonfire (edited)

Andre was completely lost in all honesty. That fight was something. He couldn't even pay attention if he tried it was too much and well. It was just that. *Too much.? Andre opened the door and came to a stop when he saw someone crumpled up on the floor. Tentatively, he approached. "Erm. Howdy." He started before he bent down in front of Kenji. "Do ya need a hand? Are you alright?" He asked gently. "Can I get you anythang..? Food? Water?" He offered. @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

Kenji flinches like a startled cat, head snapping up to see the person crouched in front of him. It takes him a moment to process the questions—but once he does he shakes his head without quite meeting Andre’s eyes. “No— N-No, I’m.. okay..” He tries to subtly adjust the scarf hiding his face before dropping his arms again. “I-I’m okay..” (It really doesn’t sound all that convincing.) @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾

"It don't really sound too convincing if you ask me." Andre chuckled sadly. He took a seat in front of him before he eyed the ground. "Well, I'm Andre. It's nice to meet you...sir." He trailed off. He didn't know the others name yet. Hopefully he'd learn it sooner than later. "That fight was pretty scary wasn't it?" He looked down at the ground. "I was pretty scared toom but, ah, you know, maybe I am bein' too optomsitc but...I wanna try an' think there is a way outta here.." He rubbed the back of his neck. Nothing Kenji could really do about that. He’s at least able to keep himself from shrinking further back when Andre sits in front of him. “I’m..Kenji,” he murmurs quietly in delayed response, after realizing with a small start that Andre was kind of subtly asking for his name. Scary… Yeah, that was a word for it. He wishes he could appreciate the optimism, he really does, but he’s not exactly known for being that type. At the very least it’s enough to distract him from the whole ‘my powers are a little too similar to how someone died and i’m scared they’ll blame me somehow’ train of thought. “Is there?” He asks defeatedly with an aimless shrug. “It’s— It’s s-space, I mean.. "Well, I like to think so." Andre laughed sadly. "I...I don't wanna fight so, ya know. I'm tryin' keep everyone on tha' positive side." He admitted. "Sorry if I'm comin' off as too much." He shook his head. "Well, aren't you the optomist." "I try to be, Miss Angie." "Its ah...erm.." Andre trailed off. "...Why don't ya tell me about yourself? Ah- I can start if ya'd like..." He gestured to his necklace. "I got this necklace here...I think its pretty neat...I don' know what type of crystal it is or anythang though.." @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒 (edited)

Kenji pulls his knees a little closer. “It’s..okay. I d-don’t— I don’t want to k-kill either, b-but I don’t want to die, I c-can’t—“ He cuts himself off, head shaking minutely. “H-He said it would be d-different, we won’t— we won’t have a ch-chance to fight back.” Different than what, he doesn’t elaborate on. Andre’s switch in topic catches him off guard, though, and he seems to calm down for a second. Until the necklace is brought up, and as he instinctively raises his own hand the absence of the familiar weight against his chest is unmistakable. His hand lowers. “It’s..nice,” Kenji offers— an attempt was made, at least. “Um. I-I don’t know a lot about— about crystals o-or anything..” @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾

"Did you have a necklace?" Andre asked. "Ya reached for ya neck...if ya missin' something maybe we can help you find it." Andre smiled a bit, trying to cheer Kenji up. "We?" "Well it'd be tha nice thang to do wouldn't it?" "Ugh...we can try. Sure. Why not." @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

Kenji flinches slightly. “I— I did. Rakin, h-he took it.” He falls quiet again, somewhat regretting bringing it up in the first place as he stares back at the floor, but eventually looks up slowly with a faint frown. “…What do— What do you mean by ‘we’?” @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾

"He means we." Angie said with a huff as she manifested next to him. "Hi nice to meet you, I'm Angie." "Ah- well- this is mah friend Miss Angie." Andre introduced. "Soul bound necklace type shit. Dont worry about it." @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

Kenji’s eyes shoot open wide, and if it wasn’t for the bed behind him that he was leaning against then he probably would’ve been scrambling backwards. Instead he just openly stares at the now two in front of him, and it’s a moment before he finds his voice again. “‘Soul..bound’..?” He repeats, voice cracking ever so slightly as his gaze darts nervously to Angie. “What… What k-kind of soul bound? What are y-you?” (Nice going king. Those are definitely the first questions someone normal would ask in this scenario.) @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾

"Angie. Like I said." She sighed heavily before she leaned back. "Andre here is Mister Posisitive so he asked me if I could help find your little necklace." She looked at her nails. "And food for you guys to live." Then she crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow as she scanned Kenji. "...Though I have a feeling you stole our schtick." "Eh? Miss Angie?" Andre asked. @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

That doesn’t really answer his question of what she is, which sets a few alarm bells going off in Kenji’s head. And for good reason—Kenji can’t help but feel like she’s looking right through him. “‘Schtick’? I’m not sure what you mean by that,” he shrugs, leaning forwards slightly as he rests an arm on his knee. The movement shifts his scarf, but he doesn’t seem to notice. “We’ve only just met after all.” @capisnotonfire (edited)

Angie smiled wide with a tilt of her head. "Alright, then I'm wrong." She said with a small carefree shrug, though her eyes said otherwise as they flashed with interest. Andre looked bewteen the two and frowned. "A-Anyway....about tha' necklace...would you like some help findin' it, Kenji? I'm sure maybe we can get it back for you..." Andre suggested meekly. Maybe if they just asked and said pretty please...well. It wouldn't work but he felt bad for the guy. Too loose something important. @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

He stretches languidly as he pushes himself to his feet, now standing and leaning against the headboard of the bed. Angie’s interest doesn’t go unnoticed. “Perhaps. Perhaps not.” His gaze shifts to Andre at the question. “I’d say we have more interesting matters at hand than a simple trinket, wouldn’t—“ His head twitches slightly, eyes blinking rapidly a few times before he finishes, “—wouldn’t you?” @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾

"Ah." Angie leaned forward now, floating above Kenji slightly as she grinned. "So I am not wrong then, am I?" She asked before she laughed. Angie clapped her hands together, seemingly excited about all of this. (Poor Kenji.) "Can I get a nameeee prettyy pleaseee?" She leaned in close. Andre watched the two for a second, his eyes narrowing briefly before he adjusted his posture, getting to his as he cleared his throat. "...Possibly." He agreed softly. "....If Miss Angie knows somethin' I don't...please do clarify for me..." @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

He raises an eyebrow at Angie floating above him, surprised but not quite willing to show it. “I would love to, believe me, but..it would be more fun to wait,” he hums with the barest hint of a smile cracking into the corners of his eyes. And then, out of the blue, Kenji’s knees buckle. He just barely manages not to fall by catching himself on the corner of the bedpost, chest heaving as he’s finally able to breathe again. “I’m— It’s—“ The attempt at an apology jumbles in his mouth and Kenji swallows painfully, squeezing his eyes shut before trying again as he frantically pushes his scarf back up before it can slip any further. “That— Th-That wasn’t supposed to— to happen—“ @capisnotonfire (edited)

Angie pouted and grabbed Kenji by the shoulders and began to shake him. "Nnnooo!" She whined. "Come on tell me your name!" She pouted before she let out a hefty sigh and landed on the ground. "Aww come on." She crossed her arms before Andre stepped in front of her with a nervous laugh. "...S-Sorry about her." Andre apologized. "Miss Angie can be a lot sometimes..." He frowned. "Miss Angie, let's not force him now, alright?" "Uggghhh." Angie groaned and tossed her head back dramatically. @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

Angie grabs his shoulders, and Kenji’s entire body locks up. He stands frozen, eyes wide, until Andre cuts in between them, and it’s only then that he relaxes by just a fraction. Amara might have got the jump on him but at least for now it seems Andre is on his side. “It’s.. I-It’s okay..” Sounds like he’s trying to be believable at least. “I, um— I’m— I’m sorry you had to s-see that, it’s—“ Not that Kenji doesn’t want to explain, honestly, but the thought of it is even more intimidating than the actual action. “W-Whatever she said, it wasn’t— it wasn’t m-me, I swear..” @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾

"But I wannna meeeeet herrr!" Angie whined before she crossed her arms. "Fine. I'll be nice." She let out a hefty sigh. She leaned against the wall before she looked at the two. "You should eat something." She pointed to Kenji. "You look like a scrawny wet cat." Andre let out a sigh, pinching his nose. "...I do agree with her. Not- not the cat thang...but you should eat somethin'...you don't wanna freak yourself out and have an emptty stomach." He crossed his arms. "I still haven't found much of a food source though for y'all..." @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

He still shrinks in on himself a little, but honestly Kenji can’t even deny the wet cat bit. The idea of eating around other people though, even after all this time, still brings an uncomfortable anxiety. “I-I’m okay, really..” He frowns slightly however once the implication kicks in. “There’s.. The, um, someone else I-I talked to, Agustin, he said there’s food here but— but I’m not sure what..” @Cap! | Maki🧿 + Andre🌾 (edited)

"Well ya gotta eat." Andre pointed at him as he crossed his arms. He looked towards the door before he sighed heavily. "I should eat somethin' too than as well..." Angie looked over at Kenji and pouted. "Agustin?" She asked. "Who the hell is that?" @em | mallon 🎣 + kenji 🌒

Kenji had already decided that he wouldn’t be going to the fight. But… But it was Andre. Sure they hadn’t talked long, but— well. He should be there. Once Andre disappears, his hand just barely raises.
