... Connie would awake in a strange room- four gray stone walls surrounded her, and a stone floor, with a clear glass ceiling showing various stars and galaxies above. It would be almost beautiful, if not for the circumstances. The room itself was mostly featureless, just the four walls with no decor... And seemingly no exit?? Connie sat in the middle of the room, a migraine fading from her head as she woke up. The tingling was gone, and she had full control over her body. She was sat against a wall, and there was a set of chains on the wall beside her, but she was not bound. There was a man in the room. With black hair and green highlights- shaved on one side with an intricate pattern. Their eyes were dark voids, besides one pinprick of white, glowing light. He wore a flowing open robe, green pants, and green dress shoes. His body was riddled with red scars-.. Burns, maybe? He had some other bandages as well, around his right shoulder, and bits of crimson stained his outfit. He was sitting on the ground, taking some deep breaths. Once Connie was waking up, he pushed himself to his feet with a great amount of effort. "Hoyseksagu." He said. Hoough. She forgot what it felt like to be knocked out by her own powers. Connie stirs a little, grimacing against the dull thud that was steadily fading from between her eyes. She hadn't had a migraine like this in a long while. She blearily looks around and soon recognizes the absence of a Door. No door, no windows, no escape. Cool! Great! Just like every good cult had, a missing door in a stoney room. This was fine, she was fine, she was totally preparing for this, and and not at all terrified! The voice startles her more than it's supposed to, and Connie jolts. Looking to the voice, she's very aware of two things; the chains on the wall, and the man that's starting to move. The man with the void and pinprick eyes. Not Sun Cult, noted. "I- hoy...sek...Where...am I?" she asks, before regret overtakes her. "Eeacckgh. Blegh, bile, yuck." Pressing a hand on the ground, Connie begins shuffling to her feet, her free arm waving just slightly to regain her balance. As she straightens up fully, she's a little surprised to see that he's about her height. A kid? No- his voice- "You- you're the voice," she suddenly realizes. Her voice is all croakey. Ignoring everything that she had been saying, Rakin lunged at her. He placed his bandaged hand on her head and another shock went through her body. It made her head hurt- not in an acute way, but in a thinking too hard for too long kind of way. "Can you understand me now?" @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Before she knew it, he was moving, and Connie barely had time to dodge. She scrunched her eyes shut as the same tingly feeling ran down her spine and all throughout her body. Second time getting shocked the charm, or something. She blinked, a little dazed, and shook her head to get rid of the brief ache behind her ears. "Augh- y-yeah? "Good." Rakin moved his hand away and sat down on the ground, not too far away from her. He didn't look that worried about her. .. was the blood staining his outfit his or someone else's..? Young one, so definitely not a kid like her. "Host?" Connie repeated, rubbing the spot where his hand once was. "What d'you mean 'host'?" As he sat down on the ground, Connie squatted down at her little spot to be eye-level with him. Now that she had...a little. Less to worry about, she briefly looked over the man. Not a kid, short like her. A lot of green. A lot of it. And blood, too. Staining blood. Huh. "Like...the leader? Is this the Cult of the Myre, or sun'thin?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"...Oh. Um. Okay, then." She stared a moment longer at his eyes before she dropped her gaze, beginning to pick a little at the hair ties on her wrist. Her head was starting to ache from thinking all over again. "So, if this isn't like. A cult. Why'd your host- leader- bring me here? Wherever this is?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"We brought you here to compete in our event. This tournament will prelude the rebirth of the greatest species in the universe. It will be a spectacle for the ages." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

All apprehension and hesitation Connie felt seemed to melt away practically instantly. She beamed, clapping her hands with excitement. She always wanted to compete in a tournament! Otty and Rei talked about it a buuunch. "A tournament!" she squealed. "Ooo, I always wanted to be in a tournament!" The rebirth of the greatest species in the universe. "What species, what species?" Connie all but begged, leaning forward on her palms. Her eyes were as bright as they could possibly be, absolutely vibrant with eagerness. "Ibexes? Monk seals? "Uh- neither of those. But I'm glad you're so eager to compete." This seemed like a trend amongst the youngsters, huh? "But we are seeking to bring back the Pilarians, the Pillars of Knowledge. We have everything in order, we are simply creating an event that is just as grand." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

She leaned back on her haunches again, her chin propped in her hand. "That doesn't sound like any animal," she mumbled. "Uh! What are the Pilarians? And what d'you mean by the 'event'?" She added air quotes with her free hand, cocking her head to the side. Her brain was...thinking. Slowly, but thinking regardless, piecing bits and pieces together. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"The Pilarians are everything I have said they are so far." Rakin said. "They are brilliant species that used to contain all the knowledge in the universe, until they were.. they were.. Destroyed. By a violent bunch of Galleons and m- the king of the froglings. Together they managed to destroy the Pilarians base and use their acute sensitivity to sound against them." Rakin paused- as if trying to make sure Connie heard that bit and took it in. "But one remained. One more primitive, less sensitive, and more robust. Connie listened quietly to the man speak, absolutely entranced by the story he was painting. Yet slowly, her smile began to falter, even after the mention of frog(ling)s. She just sat there, a little dazed after it all. "Oh," she quietly said. "So these Galleon guys, they, they destroyed all- almost- all of them?" She mulled on that for a little while longer, before tugging on her hair and mumbling, "that's horrible." She couldn't even begin to imagine that, people (or froglings, whoever those guys were,) killing each other over and over to the point of only one remaining. It made her stomach just ache thinking about it. Maybe that one guy's hearing just wasn't...as good as the others ? With their good hearing, and all. "Uh, but, that's good! That- that there's still one guy, though! At least the knowledge of the universe 'n stuff will still keep going...?" Admittedly, she was a little hesitant about that. Hopeful, yes, certainly! "Yes, the Galleons. They hated the Pilarians, for they thought they knew too much. It was horrific. Such an awful waste of everything." Rakin explained. "Most of their database of knowledge was destroyed. They will functionally be starting over with this new generation. But they are eager to get back at it." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Oh!" New generation! That definitely made her feel a little more hopeful about this. "Aw, that's actually awesome!" A pause. "Wait, so why are we here? If like, this tournament is for the...Pilarian guys coming back, then they won't even be able to see all this stuff happen." Unease. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"This event is about the spectacle. The knowledge of the event is stored within our host, which will then be spread as in their final act, they die and recreate the rest of the species. This will coincide with the conclusion of the event, where the final two contestants face off to reveal the winner, who will get to play a part in the rebirth. "...They still die in the end??" Connie tugged at her hair, a bit baffled and confused at the explanation of it all. "Wait- so wait, so like. We're doing this event- tournament, thing, so the host for this can. Die? And the Pillarian guy dies, too?? Even after everything? So the rest of the Pilarians can like, be. Reborn?" Life is a cruel, cruel ouroboros of death that chases each other in a neverending cycle of life and death. Connie haaated this. Connie was also starting to get a stomachache and a headache. "H-huh?" Connie stood up suddenly, backing away from the stranger. It felt as if the weight of what he had just said was crushing her chest, filling her up with that same numb feeling again. The tingling chill that ran up her spine and settled in her stomach- "They will celebrate over our corpses." "Everyone- e-everyone will...die? Everyone? I'm-" A cruel ouroboros of death. That's what Otty said, and she always snickered a little at that. Dumb adult pessimism, live a little, love some more. "Wait, wait, w-wait, I don't wanna die!" Connie cried, hands balling into fists. Her chest was starting to ache again. "I don't- I-" She wanted to go back to her little monster of the week adventures, where every bad guy was just another good guy hurting badly. She wanted to go back to delivering letters, sitting in the cathedrals, eating soup dumplings. She wanted to go back home to her family, listen to their stories of their tournaments, and watching the stars under the indigo sky, and- She wanted to live, not- not be doomed to die or something! "I wanna go home," she wept, unaware of the tears that were beginning to roll down her cheeks. "I- I wanna go home, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna be in- in this tournament, thing!" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"I am sorry. I am doing everything I can." Rakin paused, taking in another breath. ".. To ensure this event goes on without problem. I am sorry I had to bring you here. Another step back. Her own hands were quivering too, her hiccups getting worse with each second she spent crying. Cornered. Trapped. In a stupid room with stone walls and stone floors, trapped and she was gonna die fighting in this stupid tournament, she didn't want to die, she was just a kid! She- she- "Th-his host sucks," she wheezed, sniffling loudly. She had no chance of survival- zee-ro. Unless there were other kids too, but for shitssakes, she was fifteen! Despite how much confidence she had in her abilities, the sinking dread that she wasn't going to make it stung. It stung bad. "Snnf- 'm sorry that your job is gonna have to get a little harder, but I'm not gonna let you just- just knock me out," she gritted out, swiping a hand across her nose to get rid of the snot. He reappeared in another flash, along with a crack of lightning, in the air above her. It was loud. He fell down to her level, planting his head firmly on her head. "Tell the others what I have said. Everything." Rakin said. Electricity shot through her mind again, causing her to fall in to unconsciousness. "Enjoy your last few days alive." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Connie readied her fists as he stood, lightning dancing along her knuckles as she waited- how to attack? How to lunge? How would she get out? Where would he go? Directly above , it seemed. Her head jolted upwards to look at him, the rumble of thunder heavy in her ears. That was her gimmick- "Tell the others what I have said. Everything." The words rung in her ears like the aftermath of thunder- yet, as she looked upward, his head pressed to hers, she could the pinpricks of white in the void of black, and the swirl of purple that peeked out from behind his head, from between the strands of hair. It was unmistakable what it was- she had spent every night the last few months staring up at them. Huh, she thought, as electricity turned to static turned to nothingness. Her eyes felt heavy. Her cheeks were wet. It ached. She never actually knew what the stars looked like this close. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽
