After nurshing Minerva in the restroom, thankfully not having been interrupted, Jymaiyri wrapped up her baby yet again and ventured back out into the cold. She and Lykos had passed the bonfire on their way to the restroom shed, so she figured that was a good place to stick around for a while. Jymaiyri stood by the fire, enjoying its warmth while Minerva watched the flickering light. She wasn't relaxed, per se, but she wasn't as stressed as she'd been lately. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

Shortly after Jymairyi had ventured to the bonfire, another woman was approaching. Dressed in a long coat with bright frog earmuffs, she really stood out. She walked up to Jymairyi and stared down at the baby, not very subtly. @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Jymaiyri leaned away from the woman, giving her a judging look. "Excuse me?" Minerva, meanwhile, looked up at the woman with mild curiosity. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

Jymaiyri glanced to Minerva, then back to Zahara. "Other than being stuck here, I think she's fine." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"But she's so small. She musta been the runtiest of the clutch. And is she the only one that lived..?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Yeah, she's a bit small, but the doctors say she's on track development-wise," Jymaiyri's brow furrowed. "Clutch? She- I only have one baby." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"But-.." Zahara paused, deep in thought. She held up her hands in front of Minerva, like she was trying to mesure her. "Oh. Are ya the one the other little human got the fish for? She said somethin' bout ya havin a 'human baby'. I guess it does look like that." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Oh, you're the one Connie spoke to-" Jymaiyri realized. "Yes, I'm the one with the human baby. Have- have you never seen a baby before?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

".. Just frogling and toadlin babies. That are tadpoles." Zahara said and moved to sit down next to Jymairyi, still staring at the baby. ".. So did the other ones die? You do ya only got the one? Did you give the rest up..?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Tadpoles. Right." Jymaiyri had gathered some of that from Rakin. She shook her head. "No, I- I only had one baby. There were no 'other ones'. Just her." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

".. That's terribly inefficient. Carin' so much for one baby.. At least it's a girl." Zahara hummed. "Not a total waste of ya one chance." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Inefficient-" Jymaiyri shook her head. "And what do you mean, 'one chance? I know I'm a bit old for it, but it's not like I couldn't have more if I wanted. Technology and all these days." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

".. Amphibs can only lay one clutch ever." Zahara blinked, finally looking up from the baby to Jymairyi. "Humans can.. Keep doin it? Just one at a time?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Jymaiyri blinked back, equally as confused. "Uh- yeah? Until you reach menopause, I guess? Most of the time humans only have one baby at a time, unless it's twins or something." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Men..opause? Twins?" More terms she was unfamiliar with. "What do men gotta do with it?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Well, you can't have a baby on your own- but menopause is when you stop being able to reproduce when you get older and all that." Jymaiyri explained. "And twins is when you're pregnant with two babies at the same time. There can be more than two, but it's not super common." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Pregnant..???" Zahara shook her head. This was all too complicated. "Why would anyone want to have only one baby..? What if ya only got a boy?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Yeah?? Babies don't just magically appear out of the air..." Jymaiyri laughed awkwardly. "Well- that's just how it works. Most people have more than one kid, just at different times. Also- why would I care if it's a boy? That doesn't really matter to me?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Well if ya have a boy you probably won't have any grandkids.. And then ya won't have any more family tree after ya die. It's sad." Zahara said. "That's pretty important." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Well- he might still have kids. Men can have kids. I have a husband- he's still the father of my baby." Jymaiyri sighed. "Also, I don't really care if I have any grandkids. At least not right now." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"But if it's a boy you got much less of a chance. For every girl there's nine boys.. only the best of the best get a chance." Zahara said. ".. Unless that's not how it works for humans..?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"My body. She-uh, she grew in my body." Jymaiyri put a hand to her lower stomach, below where Minerva's sling lay. "That's what pregnancy is. The child develops inside the mother, instead of in an egg." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

Zahara glanced over to see where Jymairyi was gesturing, and she looked horrified. "That sounds like a parasite." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Jymaiyri shook her head. "It's normal. I promise. Millions of women go through it every year." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Oh. Yes, I spose so! I think us frogs are tha only ones to have a king or queen chosen by our Gods- well.. Hm. Actually, I think the monarchy may end with Raina as well.. Since all tha Pilarians are gone now." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Oh. Huh." Jymaiyri seemed more interested in this than other aspects of frog life Zahara had previously described. "Pilarians, huh? I assume those are the gods. What kind of gods are they?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"They were.. Mm.. I guess I can speak ill of em now that they're gone." Zahara said. "They were a lil' cruel. Not merciful. Raina said that they made all the amphibs fight all the time and that they liked chaos. An' that's why he had to go and kill em all with some other aliens. But they were super smart he said. So smart that they- hmm how'd he describe it.. Their weird ears were sensitive enough to pick up on your 'brain waves' whatever that means. But that also meant loud noises hurt em a whole lot. So it was easy to kill em once they were close." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Jymaiyri listened with intent- she was genuinely interested in this stuff- but she lit up with recognition as Zahara described the Pilarian's ability to pick up on brain waves. "The, uh, brain wave ability, can you tell me more about how that works? Like, I don't know, if they were able to look through people's memories? Or manipulate what they saw?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Uh.. I dunno. I never heard bout that. The myth was that they'd look inside your head when you're in the pond and decide if you're worthy to become human later. But I think that was just a story our parents tol' us to keep us from causin' any problems in the pond." Zahara said. "They can manipulate people to act, I dunno bout memories. Well, that wasn't a confirmation of her suspicions. But it also wasn't a denial. "Right. Okay. And Raina is the king.... How could I get in touch with him?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Well... He usually comes when I pray real hard." Zahara smiled. "But he ready' came by once tonight, he might be tired.." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Yup. A doctor of botany." Jymaiyri nodded. "That's, uh, plant science. I know a lot about plants. My research is specifically on dendrology. Which is tree science." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Maybe ya can talk to Agustin about that too! He ain't said anything about it, but maybe he's a doctor too since his dad is." Zahara chuckled. "I grew flowers back in the swamp. I ain't a doctor of em though- or trees." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Oh? What kinds of flowers? What did they look like? Tell me about the trees, too." Sorry Zahara you landed on this woman's special interest. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Oh! Well, I dunno if the names will be the same.. But I grew Sunsets and Lightning Buds mainly. Some Sunglows." Zahara smiled. "And I dunno much about the trees. They were big and sturdy. Brown.. Leafy.. Uhm... A lot of frogs lived in em! A tree frog may have known more. I'm a ground frog. My burrow was under one. The long roots kept my burrow stable." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Admittedly, flower taxonomy wasn't Jymaiyri's thing, and Zahara's names were unfamiliar to her. The vague description of the tree wasn't too helpful either. "It's alright." She shrugged. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

".. The flowers were real pretty though. I actually got to work a bit with Raina's wife. She's sweet." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Mhm! Many froglings he saved wanted to be with him of course, but he found someone who left before everythin' went wrong, so she ain't indebted to him or nothin." Zahara smiled. "He had his ten kids too, they are real cute. Just got old enough to transform." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Hm. That makes sense. I wouldn't want to be with anyone who's indebted to me in that way." Jymaiyri mused. "Ten kids? Wow. That's... a lot." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Yeah, him and Mirana kept five of em, includin' the two girls they had. Very lucky." Zahara nodded. "The other five are livin' with other families. A lot of clutches haven't been hatchin' right, so a lotta people are lookin for kids to help. My partner left after ours didn' hatch, so.. Jymaiyri nodded along with all Zahara said. "Huh. I guess that makes sense. Sorry about your kids,, and your partner." She gave the woman a sympathetic look. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"I don't care too much that he left." Zahara sighed. "But I-.. I miss the kids.. That's kinda why I wanted to hold yours." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Yeah... I can only imagine how that must feel." Jymaiyri sighed, and took a moment to think. "Hmmm... I guess I can let you hold her for a bit. But only a bit." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"R-really..? How should I- hold her? I ain't ever held a human baby before." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"I can show you," Jymaiyri said, and began to get Minerva out of the sling, adjusting her little baby hat. "The easiest way for you to hold her would probably be a cradle hold, like this." Jymaiyri demonstrated, holding Minerva to her chest and supporting her with both hands. "It's important to keep her entire body supported. She's still pretty fragile." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

Zahara watched closely, nodding along. She moved up her arms to mimic the motions that Jymaiyri made. "This this..?" @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"That's good." Jymaiyri nodded, and stepped closer to Zahara. "I'm gonna hand her over to you now. She's a bit heavy, so don't freak out." Carefully, she handed Minerva over to Zahara, adjusting the woman's hands a bit to better support the baby. Minerva gazed up to Zahara with big, curious eyes. She put her little hand close to her mouth. @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

Zahara held the baby with an extreme gentleness, like any sudden movements or squeezes would break her somehow. She stared down at her, her eyes looking just as curious. "How long is she gonna be little like this?" Zahara asked quietly. @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Oh, she's trying to get her glove off." Jymaiyri fussed, and pulled Minerva's mitten back over her tiny hand. "Minnie baby, you're gonna get cold!" "Well, she's growing bigger every day. So that's a bit of a tough question. But once she turns one year old she'll be a toddler, and she'll learn to walk and talk and all that." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"That's such a long time.." Zahara said. "I could hardly call her 'Minnie'- she's more like 'Biggie'- I can't imagine layin a baby this big in the pond. Even in human form." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Trust me, it doesn't feel like a long time. Feels like yesterday she was born." Jymaiyri chuckled. "Mhmm. It definitely wasn't easy, giving birth. In fact, it was the opposite of easy. But it was worth it. I've got her now." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

".. Hah, took me like five minutes to lay all my eggs and get out of the water. And even then, that was considered a bit long." Zahara said. She carefully moved her right hand up toward Minerva's face, gently poking her cheek with her mittened finger. "She's so.. squishy. "Wow. I was in labor for like, sixteen hours. Wow." Jymaiyri laughed. Minerva giggled as Zahara squished her cheek. She wrapped her little hand over the woman's finger. "She is... squishy." Jymaiyri echoed. "Like you? How so?" @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Well, I'm a real round lookin frog. I think it helps me from losin' all my water in the desert, but it ain't really a problem round here." Zahara said. She smiled as Minerva grabbed her finger, wiggling it around a bit more. "I can show ya after you take Biggie back." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

Minerva continued to giggle as Zahara waved her finger around. "Huh. That makes sense." Jymaiyri said. "I can take her back now, if you want." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

"Mmm, soon," Zahara said. "What does she eat? She got little front teeth like some frogs do." @innsjo | juno🌻/jymaiyri🌿/minnie🌺

"Well, right now she's mostly still eating milk," Jymaiyri laughed. "But we've been starting her on solids lately. She's a big fan of avocado." @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽
