ZAP! Connie was zapped in to the arena...
She was in a field of solid crystal. In a circular area around here, there were only giant multi-colored jugged crystal peaks and a smooth crystal floor. The further from the center of the arena they got, the higher and higher the crystal mountains became until they curved around to form most of a ceiling. In the center of the ceiling there was still a gap to show off the stars above.
To one direction, there was a large gap, about a two hundred feet across. The only way to cross the gap was a series of floating crystals about fifteen feet apart from each other. It would be practically impossible to jump that distance while standing, or even running. If you were to miss your jump, well, you'd be falling straight in to space...
- At the end of the gap, on another crystal platform, is the totem.
"Hhh," Connie wheezed, her voice all wobbly and wet with the threat of tears. Her hands were still sticky with oranges. She didn't get to finish her orange yet. She wanted to go home.
Her head jerked up quickly at the approaching footsteps, only to be met with a very big and scary guy running at her. She wanted to go home.
"Please don't hurt me," she gasped, craning away from him. "T-this isn't fair- please-"

5Moses stepped onto the platform with Connie, his shoulders seeming heavier in the light. "I'm glad people have been kind to you, Connie. I know some people don't think so, but everyone deserves kindness. Especially you little ones," Moses replied and gently ruffled Connie's hair.
Though, at her apology, Moses' smile became sympathetic. "You don't need to apologize. This is my choice. I want you to go on and live your life. I can see this sparkle in your eyes. Despite all of this.. I hope you don't lose that, Connie." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

It was just for a split second. The smallest of moments where Connie would see a flash of hesitation in Moses' eyes.
That shred of hesitation was taken in a moment.
He didn't even have time to process exactly what happened. Connie's question had momentarily caused Moses' focus to scatter, and with that, any sense of footing he had on the platform. He messed up.
A familiar coldness crept onto Moses' body, something like a hug of a loved one. Just as quickly as it held him however, it disappeared.
Moses was left shell-shocked. He coughed, falling onto his knees as he tried to steady himself. All composure he had just now was gone. The platform seemed to spin and Moses' nails broke as he try to grip onto the surface, clawing like his life depended on it. It did depend on it. His breathing was erratic and small grunts of genuine pain escaped his lips. What a lovely reminder of what death was like. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

4 5In the tenth of a second, the words left her lips. In the tenth of a second there was a flash of something familiar- something she's seen all too many times before-
Hesitation. Doubt.
Fear.
A scream left Connie's lips as Moses fell into the expanse of space, bits of shattered crystals fading quickly into the specks of light in the distance. She screamed, still lingering at the edge of the platform, absolutely frozen in place. Moses. Moses. Moses.
He helped her. He tried to help her. He was dying. He was dead.
Connie didn't know what she was going to do, one foot hovering over the edge of the platform, but she stumbled back when Moses was suddenly back on the platform again. Alive- but gasping.
"Moses!" Connie cried, dropping to her knees beside him. "Moses- Moses, no, n-no, no, are you- gh- Moses!"
Connie held onto his arm- something to ground him, maybe, hopefully, she didn't know how this worked. "Hey- hey, deep breaths- c-c'mon, it's alright! Um! Wwwuh."
Dying. Dying.

Then suddenly, there was Connie.
Moses' instinct was to pull away from her, pulling and flailing for just a moment. Her voice, even if new, was familiar. It was enough to bring Moses back to the present. His world still shook, but he wasn't there. He was with Connie on some random planet in space. That wasn't much better, but it wasn't the battlefield. Moses' coughed as he tried to catch his breath, but he didn't have the strength to focus. He just closed his eyes, feeling Connie's hold and the ground beneath him. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Details:[d20+3 (18)]The smoke didn't clear. Nor did the burning or pain on Moses' left side of his body. He gripped his arm like it was going to be taken from him. Within all of that, however, Moses could still hear Connie's voice. She was still there, waiting for him. Depending on him. If he was going to die, he wasn't going to be dragging someone down with him.
Gritting his teeth, small puffs of air escaped Moses' lips. He painfully removed his hand from the grip on his arm, moving up towards his neck. With the little strength he had, Moses pulled his dog-tags from his neck and put them into Connie's hand. "..I-I'm sorry. Keep on going, C-Connie. For me.. G-Give that to Maki, please," he said through his teeth.
With the slight swing of his leg, the last piece of the bridge was finished. It was perfect for one person. The perfect case to lead to victory. "..A-And if you run into him, t-tell Agustin I'm sorry." @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

5 2Connie held the dog-tags in her hands delicately, as if afraid they would shatter at any moment. For Maki. These were for Maki. Knights had dog-tags, too. Small, metal, smooth.
"Agustin?" she repeated. Her voice was all cracky again. She knew him. She heard about them. I'm sorry. "I- I'll tell him. I'll tell him."
This wasn't fair.
Connie hugged Moses, small, orange-stained fingers digging into the back of his shirt. The dog-tags were enclosed tight in her fist, pressing marks into the soft of her palms.
He wasn't really scary, after all. He was kind. He was so kind.
"Thank you," she quietly said, voice barely above a whisper. "T-thank you, so much. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

4 4 1Moses gave Connie the smallest of nods. He knew this was a big burden on her shoulders. He knew this was asking too much of a child. It was wrong to leave this on Connie. Moses knew all of this.
It left a heavy heart in his chest. He hoped whatever waited for him on the other end would have mercy. Moses pulled away from Connie's hold, falling onto his back, and stared up endlessly at the light. Moses gave Connie one last smile. A thank you, and an apology. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Connie forced herself to her feet, trying her hardest to smile for Moses. She couldn't see his smile through her tears.
He was kind. He wanted to help her. He could have run, but he wanted to help her. He could have won, but he wanted to help her.
Each step she took across the bridge rang heavy in her ears, these bright, brilliant noises from his crystals, his powers, and his son's powers, too.
This wasn't fair.
She felt the smoothness of the stone beneath small fingers, small fingers still warm with his hand, the chains of the dog-tags dangling between her fingers.
This wasn't fair.
Connie picked up the totem, and it felt like a death sentence.
