Whatever comes to mind, starlight.” They nodded, staring at the strange device before placing their paw into the hand area. “Hm, do you pick up the phone now or type first? The Yellow Robe Demon was super cool. Though, again, he was a pretty gnarly and bad demon. Human eating and whatnot. "Oh! Um- I'll pick up the phone, yeah," she says, doing the exact same thing. There's a little bit of a smile on her lips, something fond and cheeky. "I think I know who to call. Um, I think you might like her!" @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

Pressing the phone against her ear, Connie pressed in; R-E-I K-I-T-S-U-N-E "She does a buncha magic stuff- and does some stuff with transformations too! I was gonna do Marshall, but. Mmm. Mmm. Yeah. He does more like, plants and rocks magic." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

They looked surprised. “Ah, you want me to-? That’s, er, it’s fine, you should-“ Were they flustered? @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"I mean, I already talked to my dama," she said, fiddling with her hair. "And, um. Well, you don't really have anyone to talk to. But! We might, y'know. Go home. Maybe. After this. Um, and...and." "I'unno if this is a lot, but you could stay with us, maybe," Connie sheepishly said. "It's probably too much, we just met and everything. B-but it's nice! There's a lot of forests and stuff nearby, if you still wanted to live in a den- but we have these little tide pool caves, too. Um! I just thought it'd be nice if you could talk to someone, too! She doesn't do a lot of researchy stuff, I don't think she finished college or like, tried to get a doctorate, really. But it could be helpful for some of your research! Maybe! She started growing these goat horns, and she can do some cool transformation stuff sometimes?" @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

They stare at her for a moment, processing her offer. Their jaw opens and shuts a few times, before they finally speak. “You… you would offer- to a beast like me? I..” It wasn’t like they had anything to really return to. Hell, they would give anything to get off of that damn planet. But this wasn’t just an offer to visit, it was an offer to stay. That strange tightness in their heart retuned, a sort of warm feeling. Connie cared for them. Lykos smiled at her. Their voice light. “I.. I would like- I’d love that, starlight.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Of course!" she softly said, smiling brighter now. "We're a bunch'a misfits, so- so don't even worry about like, being the odd one out, or anything. Um- um! Not saying you are, or- yeah! Just. Just. Of course I'd ask you to stay with us. Why not? Why not." There, she went, little Sparksy. Little Dragonfly. Eager to be kind and even eager...ier to befriend. Little shooting star in the sky. "You can come and go whenever you'd like, we don't mind," Connie hummed. Friend. Friend. Friends. "Marshy leaves for periods at a time, too- usually in the mountains or somethin'. Aiyi, too, she goes whenever. Lykos smiled fondly at her. “Thank you, Connie. You’re very kind.” Home. They laughed a little, then pushed her hand lightly with their snout. “Call them already, starlight.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ (edited)

Laughing a little as well, Connie relents, patting his nose haphazardly as she holds the phone against her ear again. "Alright, alright! I'm callin' her!" "Auntie!" Somewhere, elsewhere, in a forest along the beach, is a woman. She scrutinizes the mailbox that sits in the clearing that is absolutely brimming with wisps. They've taken up residence in the unattended mailbox, munching on paper and scraps of magic that lingers in the air. It tastes of electric and static. She sighs and kicks at the beam the mailbox is nailed into. It wobbles twice. In the quiet before the sun sets, she hears her voice. "Connie!" Rei's voice crackles through the phone. "Connie, Connie! Otter told me about- about- well, not everythin', but they told me a good bunch! Are you good? Are you hurt? Are you okay?" "I'm okay!" Connie reassures, leaning a bit against the side of the phone booth. "I'm okay! I'm not hurt, I'm- I'm doing alright!" It's certainly a contrast from what her last phone call was like- she's smiling now, something light and bubbly in her voice; "I made so many friends here," she whispers, as if it's a secret. "Everything's alright. I'm alright!" They can go home soon. "...Otter said this... Rakin guy is making you guys fight," Rei dryly says. There's something incredibly blunt behind her words. Bile, maybe. Connie can't tell that well. "Bracket, tournamenty style. That's crazy." "W-well. Well, yeah- Butut I- I haven't fought! And I'm not gonna fight, either. I'm not gonna fight. But-" A sharp, shuddery little inhale. "But if it comes down to it, I'm gonna fight my best. I learned Spinjitzu from a friend, and- and I'm gonna fight my best. I promise it." Promises were an incredibly hefty thing. As if flipping a switch, Connie suddenly jolts and nearly drops the phone in her haste. "OH- oh, wait, wait, wait! There's a five minute thingy for this, and- argh, I gotta show you my friend! Um- well- not show- talk to my friend! Please talk to my friend! He's really nice! Really nice! He has a doctorate! Two!" "Spinjitzu- huh. Huh." She kneels to hold the phone to Lykos' ear and...mouth. Like a human, probably. It should work! "You can talk whenever!" she encourages. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺 (edited)

My friend! Her heart feels all warm again, its tail starts knocking against the booth. Lykos leans in to speak, sounding a little flustered. “Er, hello there.. I am Dr. Lykos. Ah..” He pulls away for a moment, whispering to Connie. “What am I meant to talk about here? Oh-“ Back to the phone. “What is your name?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Um! Anything! I'unno what people talk about on the phone sometimes." Through the phone, crackled her voice. "Howdy, Doctor Lykos. Uhm. I'm Rei. Nice t'meet you." There was a moment of silence, similar to what usually happens when a kid jams two adults together. "She started growing these goat nubs!" Connie helpfully supplies. "Her magic's been pingin' around for a bit, but she has goat nubs now! I guess that's kinda transformey, right?" "So...uh. I heard you're Connie's friend, huh?" she asks. She's shifting to sit against the wispy mailbox now, foot idly tapping against the grass. "You're...also in this tournament? I'd guess so, but. Yeah." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

“Nice to meet you, Rei.” Lykos paused as she listened to Connie’s interjection. “Hm, your magic is causing transformations? Was that purposeful or was it a side effect?” They seem more comfortable talking about this than basic conversation. You’re Connie’s friend, huh? “Ah, yes. Your, er, niece? Connie’s very kind. And yes, I am also in the same tournament. We’re.. we’re working on getting out. There are many people looking out for Connie here.“ @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ (edited)

"Yeah, Connie's my niece. Great kid. Spunky 'n fun 'n just- she's wonderful. Great kid." Rei's silent for a sliver of a moment. "That's...good. This isn't a very...great. Or ideal situation for anyone, far from it. But it's good there's people keeping an eye out for Connie." She sounds a little more relieved at that. There's something much softer in her voice, less harsh, less blunt. "Word from the wise, keep your friends close, and your enemies as far from you as you can. We never had- eh. Traitors in our little group, but contrary to popular belief, allying with your enemy just gives them room to poison you slowly. Know your allies and your friends. Theyyy are not one and the same." She flicks a thin stick of flame off her fingertips, and it ricochets somewhere off into the woods. It hisses into smoke. "But, I digress!" "Is Connie coaching you on the side?" she asks, her voice trickling into a cackle. "Well, yeah, my magic has been, eh, 'wild' for the longest of time. Apparitions, brief bits of elemental magic, constantly fizzling here and there. I wasn't too surprised when I started growing frickin' goat horns, but it looks like it's here to stay permanently. I think it might be a side effect. Think my magic's settling for good." "You, ah, study, right? Doctor stuff? Anything in particular?" @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺 (edited)

“Hm, not ideal in the slightest, no. Connie is a resilient girl, she’ll be alright.” They look over to her with a smile. They laugh dryly. “I’d sooner die than trust my enemies for anything. No, plenty here are working together to try and escape. No one wants to be a part of this stupid game.” Their ear flicks at the cackle, but they find themself smiling as well. “Wild magic.. did something spur your magic to be so.. sporadic?” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

Connie perks up a bit at the mention of her name, her face shifting into a play scowl. "Hey! Are you guys talking about me? I can hear you, y'know!" "Mmm...I trust her and her friends...you included, of course. Can't say I trust this...game, though. But it's good you guys have gotten a little alliance going already! We had one too, but it might have started a bit later? Granted, the uh, circumstances weren't as. Dire." "Well, it started when I was eight," Rei mock sighs through the phone. "Nah, but it's just one of those things. Magic, sporadic magic, untamed and just. Weird. Maybe it's a curse? Maybe it's just how I was wired. To like, adapt to any situation? Lykos laughed at her little scowl. “Hmhmhm, yes, starlight. We’re talking about you.” Their face fell a bit as Rei spoke. “You.. hm, you speak like you have experienced something like this.” “Interesting. To adapt to any situation, hmhm.. I like that theory.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Well, you better be saying nice things about me! Like how cool and strong and- and strong I am!" Despite Connie speaking, there was still a noticeable period of silence before her response. "Ah, it was years ago. Though, uh, instead of getting zapped off into space, us lot went to an island. Willingly, that is. It was the same bracket formation too; I was the first, I think? I forget." "Again, years. I think my magic got worse around then, it was * way *too stressful for anyone there. My buddy, Otter- they're Con's dama -they were in one too, a little after me? It seems like a running thing for our family." "You like theories, Doccy? Got any, uh, theories of yours? They nudged Connie with their paw with a smile. Their head tilts curiously as Rei speaks. “Hm, none of you understood what you were walking into, did you. But your magic responded to that stress.. Fascinating, that’s similar to the magic I am more familiar with.” They think for a moment before responding. “I do have some, still I cannot form any theories without any observation or tests. I could..” They trailed off suddenly. ’You could stay with us, maybe.’ Should they bring that up..? Was it worth anything to plan for the future? The wolf was staring off into nothing for a moment, unsure of what to say. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Maybe it was instinctual? Maybe." A beat- "Oh, shit, you've seem this sorta magic before? Then I guess my magic isn't as strange as I thought! Huh!" She seems pretty pleased at that new revelation. Connie leans forward a little as Lykos freezes up, some inquisitive look on her face. "Lykos?" she softly asks. "Are you okay?" "I mean, yeah, gotta have some observations to make a theory..." Rei ponders through the silence. "You could-" It's unsure if she was offering something or repeating his words, as the call immediately pitches off into beeping. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

Their ear twitches at the beeping, bringing them back. “Oh. I am.. I’m fine, Connie. I was going to..” She sighs. “…to ask if I could.. stay. Like you offered.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡

"Oh. O-oh, oh, I forgot to ask!" Connie yelps, covering her mouth a bit. "Aw, did the phone call end already? I'm sorry, I forgot to ask! I got so excited about you guys talking, and. Argh." She crouches down a bit next to Lykos after hanging up the phone. "If it's any consolation, she definitely would'a said yes," she reassures with a little smile. "I know she would've. She's a softy at heart, but she doesn't mention it much." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

As usual, any melancholic feelings Lykos had were quickly chased away by Connie’s enthusiasm. They smiled back. “Hm, you’re all very kind. Something to discuss later then.” The wolf glanced over to Aldreda, assuming her phone call must be finished by now. …Didn’t seem to be going well. “Hm. We should go to Aldreda, find what she’s learned.” @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ @Mads|Madison📱+Aldreda🔥+NPCS👽

... Yeah, Aldreda was still leaning against the glass wall with her hands on her face. She'd seen better days.

"Of course! I got'ch'ur back," she laughs, petting Lykos fur gently. "We can talk about it later, but just know you're always welcome with us, alright?" Still crouched, Connie peers over at Aldreda, her face twisting into some concerned sort of expression. She does not look like she's having fun. "Yeahhh, we should check in with her." @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

They leaned into her with a smile, and moved to stand. “Thank you starlight.” As they moved out of the booth, the announcement rang out. Lykos’ ears flattened at the sound of their name, as they turned to look at Connie. “No- Connie. I don’t want you to see th-“ And they were gone. @Kipology | Nathan 🏺 + Connie ⚡ (edited)

As Connie shuffled to stand, she froze up at the sudden announcement. "Lykos." Lykos. "LYKOS!" Connie cried, as he was teleported away before her eyes. With futile effort, her hand swiped through the air where they just were moments earlier. They couldn't lose. "Aldreda- L-lykos- Lykos, they're! They're fighting- Lykos!" They had to go home together. Her hand shot up into the air, and she was teleported away as well. @Sauce | Nora🧶+Lykos🐺

Hearing Connie so upset and zapping away, Aldreda weakly raised her hand up as well, joining her in the stands.
